Re: Billy Longer
Still havent seen one person tell me how our forward line is set up with Longer in the side. remember Longer has kicked one behind in 9 games. I didnt want to lose ben but he gone and can live with that because I thought Hickey would ruck with stanley doing the small amount needed for Hickey to rest and Jolly being at sandy for when he is required. I just cant see how all these guys fit into the 2 sides so they all develop bar Jolly of course.

I wouldn't be getting rid of Stanley.
He had a bad year in 2013 but has enough ability to turn into an A Grader.
Needs a good coach and a some confidence and he could explode.
But Jaxons you reckon hes not a ruck - which means you think he is a fwd?
I'm yet to see to see anyone in VFL/AFL history who hasnt started kicking goals at at least VFL level by age 23 who 'explodes' as an AFL fwd.
I just cant see it happening now im afraid.
No goals as a junior
No goals at SANFL level
No goals at VFL level
Yet somehow we all live in hope hes going to kick goals at AFL level.

Re: Billy Longer
Stanley does not have the football nous to be an a grader. Not having a go but his athletic potential far outweighs his football ability.
Re: Billy Longer
We can't get both.
I'd rather Longer than Jolly, but please don't get both. We already have Hickey, along with Stanley and then Holmes & Pierce.
Not too sure, I want midfielder's and winger's... having 6 ruckman would be meh.
I don't mind Stanley, definitely a confidence type player, and putting him at FB did him no favors... expect a FF/Ruck role imo, he can take a good grab!

Re: Billy Longer
I'm sure we are interested in longer but...
Brisbane weren't happy with hawthorns first pick for him, why would they suddenly be happy to take that same pick from us now?
He's contracted isn't he?

The GTrain finished as a FF. Started as a wing?Con Gorozidis wrote:

.
We have had a few St Kilda full backs who switched to FF. Cowboy etc.
Lynch at the Lions I think started as a FB.
Salmon at Essendon I think was only a ruckman before "exploding" as a FF.

Re: Billy Longer
Verdun went from FB to FF swapping with Bob Murray, and was kicking them straight away. Kicked 9 against the Hawks a few weeks into his FF career, and he must have been 27, 28 by then.saintsRrising wrote:The GTrain finished as a FF. Started as a wing?Con Gorozidis wrote:

Re: Billy Longer
Uncontracted, so theoretically could go in to the psd.
Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...
Re: Billy Longer
Takes a few good grabs in this tape which suggests he has the potential to develop into a dangerous resting forward.

Can you clarify Richter. Do you mean that Longer doesn't have a contract with the Brions?
If so, if they want to keep him why aren't they doing something about keeping him by offering him a new deal?????
Anyone know the reason for him being disgruntled at the Brions? Homesick? Better deal? Doesn't like the club?

Any other examples?

They would have offered him a contract... The main reason he would be looking elsewhere is for opportunity.st.byron wrote:Richter wrote:Uncontracted, so theoretically could go in to the psd.

Leuenberger is a very good young ruckmen in front of Longer at this stage.

He is out of contract but more likely to stay in Brissie than go into the PSD.

Re: Billy Longer
"New Lions coach Justin Leppitsch has made Longer's retention a priority and flew directly from a Bali holiday to Melbourne to meet him."
Is it weird that a new coach would be away on holiday during this trade period? Pretty important time to be involved, particularly when most of your good young players are wanting to bail.

Spoken with such certainty.andrewg wrote:Stanley will play forward
Maybe he will - but there is zero evidence to suggest he will be any good at it.
The only evidence thus far is 'blonde, tall and fast' which Saints fans love and get all jacked up about.
I hope I'm wrong. I really do!

Thanks for the link RW&B.RW&B wrote:Takes a few good grabs in this tape which suggests he has the potential to develop into a dangerous resting forward.
He palms the ball nicely to advantage ! Does look a bit like Dean Cox in the way he plays.
I don't reckon we have had that sort of precision tap work at our club for a while. Can mark the pill too.
