soft but right all the same...mullet wrote:I just really want to keep him.
For once I would just like to see a player say, nup, I love the saints and want to stick around and help with the rebuild, and the club say, Dal is too much of a great club man
to let go to another club.
I know this doesnt go with all the great trading thinking, it just goes with the great bloke, nice story , thinking, which I reckon the club could use right about now.
I know , I am soft
I think Dal To North via Free Agency

I agree but there are people within the club that have set agendas for what they want to achieve. This whole Pelchen/Bains plan is beginning to remind me of the film Moneyball.

I think it was dal santos gal who had as her signature something that Dal said years ago when he signed with us again
Along the lines of sure you can get more money else where but the saints is my home, or something like that.
I just want to buck the moneyball trend and have someone stay cos we love them and they love us.
Yeah I know what you are all thinking, but wouldnt it be nice

Ahhh! That's what it was. Had a strange familiarity about it, the whole underdog team/list management thing. I'm all for the ride, but it does feel like we're betraying family; which is a pretty shitty feeling.
If it turns into one of the great missions in sport, then great. If it turns pear shaped and we remain uncompetitive for the next 3-4 years, then it'd be enough to put you off the game... I think that would well and truly do me in.
Can someone photoshop Jonah Hills face into a Saints polo?

I think Pelchen and Co are limiting the romanticism to Roo and Lenny...and probably only then as they do not fancy getting burnt at the steak!!!mullet wrote:

Re: Dal To North via Free Agency
Timely to remember that we picked up Dal with pick 13 in the '01 "super draft" which was traded to us by Sydney in return for Barry Hall. At the time of course there was much gnashing of teeth at the prospect of losing Barry, but in hindsight we did pretty well out of that deal. Obviously you can't compare the Hall defection with the McEvoy or Dal Santo situation but it just illuminates the fact that you've gotta give to get, and every cloud has a silver lining. I would be vigorously against trading out someone like Dal against his wishes, but if he was open to the move, with his own interests and the club's in mind, then good on him and good on the club.

So far the deal is NO DEAL!Con Gorozidis wrote:So after all of this - has there actually been any deal put on the table at all ?

yes.. 3 years at 450000..Con Gorozidis wrote:So after all of this - has there actually been any deal put on the table at all ?
the question is whether that (and Dals record and age) will earn a 2nd roud pick
saints maybe hoping to push it to 500,000??
For mine, it would be a disgrace if the afl found Dal is band 4 rather than band 3... it would make for some pretty disillusioned saints fans... great record in the brownlow...3 time AA.
sure, he is 29... so he does not get band 1 and not even band 2... but he simply cannot be band 4!!

29 mean nothing. He's as fit and injury free as ny 24 year old. Easy 3-4 in him

It means everything. Age is a criteria not that he may play another 3 years.

well surely it does not mean everything..nor does it mean nothing.plugger66 wrote:ShanghaiSaint wrote:29 mean nothing. He's as fit and injury free as ny 24 year old. Easy 3-4 in him

Dals record must surely count in his favour.
Far better record than Sylvia and Demons expect band 2 for him

Age, the contract and award records are about it. Nothing to do with the fact that he never usually misses games. There is no prediction into the future. Fit and injury free dont matter but 29 years of age does otherwise he would be band one.

Well if he stays with us, he would want to pull his finger out and do a whole lot better than he did this season- just played lazy footy. If we need to hold onto the 29+ yo players, they need to lead by example and not live on past glories.

Re: Dal To North via Free Agency
Lets be honest... there is no formula, if there was a legitimate formula... the details would be available and transparent for all to see...
Demetriou "Whaterya' reckon Gillion? Band 3 or 4 for Dal?"
McLachlan "Dunno, it's my boys St Kilda, can we sneak him into band 2?"
Demetriou "Not on your nelly, I hate those ridiculous dwarf burning dickheads. - band 4 it is"

If it is anything less we should keep Dal.
Next year he is an unrestricted FA and if he goes (he still may contract to the Saints who knows?) and we get a Band 3, well we got an extra season out of him for no loss of a draft pick place.
I would really like to keep Dal. Dont let those smarmy arses from North get him for nothing.
Lance or James??

By the sound of things, compensation picks may be gone by next year. We may get Jack if he goes next year. He either goes this year or we must extend his contract.joffaboy wrote:Unless we get #22 we dont win.Verdun66 wrote:We win either way......jimmy_slats wrote:2pm and atleast we will know if if we get something (via trade or stay at the club) or nothing (free agency) personally hope he stays

Agreed. I can't go through this with Dal again next year. He either goes in the next few hours or is accorded the respect he deserves; Saint for life.8856brother wrote: By the sound of things, compensation picks may be gone by next year. Re: Dal To North via Free Agency
If Dale Thomas gets pick 11, we'd have to get Pick 22 for Dal.
We should be able to establish this before the deadline.Ridiculous system
What has this week been about anyway, a whole week of waiting for a deadline!
