Maybe the real benefit if Jolly will be his experience and knowledge of ruck work after he retires.
Seems like he could be ok if fit.Thought he wasn't a bad player in his day .
Time will tell on this one.SW seems to know him and rates him....

Agree, very ignorant. Pretty bloody poor form to be honest.

I think others want us to spend a first rounder on Longer, so that Hickey or Longer will the be wasted in the twos ultimately stunting their development, then the same ppl will criticise us for spending pick 17 on Longer when Dumont went at 17 and wins the rising star, the same ppl will then blame the club for spending two first rounders in consecutive years on rucks. I can't see why we'd spend up big on a ruckman, and our rucks are very inexperienced, so Jolly is a wonderful fit with his big body and knowledge. We need mids and backs, or at least we need to spend our early picks on these types.

i'm going to show my disdain for rucks here but i would never spend a first round pick on a ruckman unless he had a huge bag of tricks and was so outstanding it would be foolish not to.

I never got the "good around the ground" stuff you heard about Ben. If a ruck can't master the art of tapping to advantage or at least making it 50/ 50 every ball they are taking a spot from someone with a preferable skill set. Ben chopped out heaps of defensive marks while we didn't have a FB but he didn't cover for a lack of a FB. I would rather a guy who literally can't do much more than mark and tap and get a KPB.

If we are rebuilding... Why

Get games into Tom Hickey if he's the one.... Accelerate his development.... Stanley too and don't keep Lewis from #1 at Sandy ATM

Get a hack back up if needed.... Like a Rix and only use him if needed

Temptation for the coach with Jolly... Would b to pick him... And do a Lyon by holding a younger player back

Joel Tippett, Ben Brown, even Frankston's Gabriel could be cheap and may well hold their own.

Paul Connors obviously has a different opinion of Saints with Watters in charge than he had when Lyon was the coach.
IIRC he was responsible for some 'pretty average comments' about us in the media when trying to get Ball to Collingwood.

1. Like the idea of young blokes with potential being mentored and physically shown the ropes by someone who has been a successful PREMIERSHIP player and proven finals performer.

2A. Getting games into the young ruckmen or getting games into J Holmes will be useless and counterproductive if it means they lose confidence and get smashed physically because their development is deficient

2B. The Demons have lots of high draft picks but what's the good of having young blokes if they are not learning from the best and getting the practical help with every single opportunity at training.

4. Don't like the long term job security of our current ruck coach if Jolly gets the gig

if Holmes makes it, he would be 2 years off.

Purely for the protection of Hickey and knowledge of the game..... we should take him.

Those saying: "if Hickey can't do it, it doesnt matter anyway because we are rebuilding..."- doesnt that stop the development of the midfield too? I'd much rather a senior ruckman directing traffic and showing our youngsters where to run and how to set up for the future.

Do we actually have one? This is from the staff list on the website. I assume it's not Laidley ...?!

Adam Kingsley Assistant Coach - Offensive
Dean Laidley Assistant Coach - Midfield
Danny Sexton Assistant Coach - Defensive
Tony Micale Assistant Coach / Academy Manager
Aaron Hamill Specialist Coach
