Re: St Kilda blocks Rhys Stanley move to Port Adelaide
Port asks Saints on Monday about Stanley and are told no.
Now on Thursday the Port List manager says that he THINKS it will be a stronger no from Saints now that McEvoy is gone.
That somehow translates to a headline of
Saints Block Stanley Move to Port
UNBELIEVABLE!

Dunno what they offered but looks like the brains trust has plans for Rhys. They must rate him.

Bains just said we are after the third pick inside 20.
Has options that he is confident about.
More like a deal with Dal Santo than Stanley, however I would have been amazed to get #14 for Stanley considering he was a rookie listed player and really hasn't shown that much yet, due to slow development and injuries.

Lance or James??

Btw whilst I agree that Port would surely not have given their 1st round pick for Rhys, he wasn't picked up as a rookie... was #47 in the 2008 national draft.
Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...
Re: St Kilda blocks Rhys Stanley move to Port Adelaide
I don't think there is any suggestion that Rhys wants to go home at all.
Said he didn't want to move last year.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

K, the author of this article is Michaelangelo Rucci who is a Port Adelaide tragic. You would be much more accurate reading it the other way around. SA would be happier with Rhys living there. The article also said that Port will continue to try to attract SA boys home and that the Advertiser had done a feature article on Rhys last week !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Rhys will blossom now that we don't have a second starting ruck. He is the future for second ruck men. Tall, mobile, quick and adaptable. Ruck man who can rest forward are hard to find and we can now start to structure around him. Playing him as a KPB was a travesty and did nothing for him or us.

I disagree with the last statement. It helped his development. As a second ruck, if he is required to drift in to the backline to help out, at least he now has some idea of the role and positioning required. May well help his forward play in the long run as well.gringo wrote:Rhys will blossom now that we don't have a second starting ruck. He is the future for second ruck men. Re: St Kilda blocks Rhys Stanley move to Port Adelaide
Yeah, I recall recently someone indicated that Rhys, although at times a little homesick, was nonetheless happy living in Melbourne with a Melbourne girlfriend.Eastern wrote:SainterK wrote:If he would be happier in sa, let him go

The story makes no reference to Rhys initiating this. As Eastern says it refers to Port trying to lure SA boys back home.
And that being the case the headline, as suggested by Mr Magic, is ridiculous.

I agree. He knows now what Simpkin, Gilbert, Gwilt and Chips have to put up with.True Believer wrote:I disagree with the last statement. It helped his development. If you don't perform as second ruck and as a KPF we are sending you to Full Back again Rhysy...how do you like them apples??
Re: St Kilda blocks Rhys Stanley move to Port Adelaide
Not sure why people cant see the upside in Rhys. Tall athletic, great leap, can take a grab very quick. He is a perfect second ruck/forward. Havnt we all learnt from the Kosi and now Big Mac picks that big lumbering dinosaurs will be and are almost are a thing of the past. Rhys could be anything between 26-29, comparing him to Nick Nat i would say he is 80% as good and 80% as good as Nick Nat is a star!. We must keep this fella, back him and he will be a St.Kilda champ.
Pretty sure i had a rant like this about Jack Steven at some stage last year.......look how that turned out.

What a silly article title. How can we block someone who doesn't want to leave?

The interesting bit in that article for me was the reference to Jonothan Giles... Don't know how he went in 2013 but his 2012 certainly would have me interested in him for the Saints!

Would the headline have been more accurate if it read something like:

Snuffs out any interest rather than block, what a great media beatup through a misleading heading! There was never any move to StKilda to block, only in their dreams!

Agree 100% he was just starting to really click, then injured, then moved to Back line....confidence dropped, another injury.....let him cement a spot in the forward line, he'll be goodgringo wrote:Rhys will blossom now that we don't have a second starting ruck. Re: St Kilda blocks Rhys Stanley move to Port Adelaide
I can't believe we blocked poor old Rooey from going to the Pies. It's an outrage. I still think we should unblock our list as it's obviously frustrating the journalists. The managers that have blocked their clients should be ashamed also. What if next week Montagna doesn't feel like training with us he should be able to go to North Melbourne. All this blocking is unconstitutional. The whole competition is restricted by the teams blocking the players wearing different clothes too. They should be free to express themselves.
