If we lost McEvoy for 18 and Savage but keep Dal Santo over Pick 26 and Deleney there are some serious issues at our club.
I don't understand the logic of overpaying for Tom Hickey (Who I don't think will be as good as McEvoy anyway) and then having to undersell McEvoy to make room for him...
I was expecting to come on here and see the biggest shitstorm over this, shocked I'm the only one who seems to feel this way.
Underselling?
We get a first round pick and decent skilled outside player, for a loping non hit out winning dinosaur who was going backwards. It's the trade of the year
Regrettable Agree - was excited by Ben - but feel that he needs more than we can put into him - and I believe that the future of rucking will be more athletic. I actually think that Ben would have ended up playing either forward or back with less time in the ruck - I have high hopes for Tom Lee and the monster backman that we pick up in the draft. Think we are covered - and who knows what other surprises are headed our way?
Sad to see Ben go though - he was a gentle soul (maybe that was the issue)

If you have a Bee in your Bonnet - I can assist you with that - but it WILL involve some smacking upside the head!

Agree, but sad to see him go. On the evidence available, Big Ben is just not going to be the superstar we thought he would be. He would have been a serviceable player - just not a very good ruckman. Still, if you look at Minson who probably had a similar profile to Ben this time 12 months ago, there is always a chance with ruckman that they get a lot better with age. So there is no doubt we have taken a risk here, he may well be very very good in the years to come. I think, and clearly the club thinks, its unlikely.
Ben McEvoy won just 36.8 per cent of his ruck contests this season - the second-worst percentage of the top 22 players to be involved in a ruck contest.
And again ...
Jack Newnes happy to be a Saint !!!! PS and to hit a target !!!
Pluggers head has probably exploded over this. We could have put Callery in ruck for a similar result. I think most saw this coming and he was traded this year while he had some value.
Disagree wtf we could of got some good players for him.
I have no faith in the bored or the football department.
What happened to Footy First? All lies
Agree. Thought I might be in the minority but the opposite is true.
Big Mac was serviceable but no champ. Getting another 1st rounder and Savage is a great trade for us.

North never offered 26. They denied that deal was ever put forward. Their preference, as it has been all along, is to have us release Dal so they can sign him as a free agent.
BTW I am for this trade in a big way.
I was a a big supporter of Benny and loved watching him take a big grab or kick a goal. But after 6 years Mac showed a lot but has very glaring deficiencies in his game. His ruckwork is at times poor at best and he is probably the slowest player in the league. Savage is quick, has good skills, can kick goals and is coming from a fantastic system. Playing 14 games in a side like Hawthorn with the year they had is nothing to sneeze at. Not to mention pick 17 and the possibility it brings to us.

all clubs pass on a gun
hindsight is fantastic...when its hindsight
hickey number one ruck rhys backs up (if he doesnt go to port lol)
hickey rucks, rhys goes to a wing forward flank back flank or goal square
i actually quite like it
but if rhys goes (surely not) ill wonder what on earth we are doing in the ruck department
surely we arent going to waste a high pick on another ruckman, we've jsut traded a top ten ruck thats under 25 ffs
maybe holmes will ruck next year, straight in....pmsl
Can I say ambivalent ?
Looked like a future ruck god in his first few seasons, but 2013 was only satisfactory.
Strange to see The Age painting this as a recruiting coup only for the Hawks - still, journos
have got to find an angle to hang the story on somewhere.
