I guess kicking goals for a forward is nice to have, but non essential?

Tapwork is sort of what the ruckman is there to do.
More than one way to skin a cat.

We have defensive forwards and defensive midfielders in footy now and everybody accepts the role they play for the team- why not a defensive ruckman?

Someone who makes it harder for the good tapwork guys to do what they do best?!

If a ruckman's big strength is is tapwork- negate that, then run off him.

I'll take an extra runner on the field every day of the week over a win in ruck contests.
And I'm not alone in that- most coaches seemingly agree when they sub out a ruckman for a mid.

Of course we all want a Dean Cox who runs all day, wins hitouts, has footy smarts, takes marks and kicks goals... but the reality is that complete package doesn't come around too often.

From a team perspective- winning hitouts is the least important aspect of what a ruckman does in today's footy.

I bought a shirt from Target once.
It had a hard tag on it too.

I know how Dal feels.

Not sure about Savage but I doubt the deal is real.
His ruck work is s***. When was the last time he was BOG?

I'd jump at that. Legit?

I think Dragit was proving a point. The point is how easy is it to start a rumour. Maybe im wrong and he did hear it. We will get Savage though. That is fact. Not for Ben though.

I think its a pretty good deal. Liked McEvoy, but see the benefits. Need to secure a mature aged back up ruck now.

I'm hoping that between Hickey, Stanley, Pierce and Holmes, we have it covered.

Thoughts on this trade?

Ben pick 9. 6 years of development. Savage would have cost pick 25 it's seems.

It obviously solves the Hickey/McEvoy dilemma...

One unintended bonus is that we will no longer have to put up with Brain Taylor waffling on about 'Big Boy' in regards to the Saints.

With this trade being done, Saints would make a play for Longer?

Love this move.
As much as Macca is a great leader and a pretty good ruckman, this really gives us what we need (a tough, quick, skillful runner) as well as another first round pick.
Macca will be a loss in terms of a big bodied midfielder (he was more a midfielder than a genuine ruckman) and a leader, but after seeing Hickey at the end of the year I think he can be a genuine #1 with Stanley in support.
A mature age backup late in the draft might be something to look at now.

Next stop, Bruce and Delaney and keep Dal.

Go Saints.

Great trade for the Saints. Savage is a very very good player in need of regular opportunity. McEvoy will do well at the Hawks. Win win, plus we get an extra pick which probably is the icing. Great deal for us.
