Re: McEvoy to Hawthorn
Why would they (Hawks) bother with that when they can get LONGER for the pick alone ?

Re: McEvoy to Hawthorn
That would actually be a win win I believe. We stock up on a solid mid and a decent pick and we have the ruck stocks to cover him. Hawks get a guy who is ready to roll and isn't injury prone.

Maybe they want McEvoy more?WinnersOnly wrote:Why would they (Hawks) bother with that when they can get LONGER for the pick alone ?
Or Brisbane have convinced Longer to stay?
Or Brisbane received a better offer than Hawthorn's?

Re: McEvoy to Hawthorn
I don't like it. Savage is ok but I wouldn't rate him as solid simply because he was not in their best 22.
It's not a terrible deal but not a great one either. He's a starting ruck who the club has put a lot of time into.
Any deals that involve us giving up any of our stars should be weighted towards us..

Re: McEvoy to Hawthorn
I rate Macca a pick 10-15.
So Savage + Pick 18 is probably not far off a fair deal.
If we end up with 3, 18, 21, Savage, Bruce.
Savage only 22. So 56 games at 22 means he is about to get good for the next 5 years.

Will hold fire until I see it come through (not saying I don't believe you...but maybe I'm skeptical)
but even though that seems like a fairly equitable deal all things considered I can't see us trading away
our future captain/vice who we have spent years developing and was a 1st round draft pick for a wing/flanker
and a pick likely to end up at 19 or 20.
In the pelican we trust but after going and spending the equivalent of pick 20 (12 or 13 getting 25/6) for tom hickey
last year due to our thin ruck stocks I doubt we'll go and ship one off a year later. Yes we may have got Pierce and Holmes
through the door since then who could develop into rucks we've also lost our first and second choice backup ruck (seems funny as
neither were suited as modern rucks) in Blake and kosi. Hickey and Stanley would make an athletic ruck line but we'd be left with kids/unknowns after that.
Ben, even if he isn't an A+ tap ruckman at this stage is still only young and is well and truly best 22. Can't see the trade happening/would be disappointed
if it eventuated. The talk of putting McEvoy up for trade on this board to date has chiefly been aimed at securing Tom Boyd who will ruck/forward.
Losing Mac would hurt us in both the short and long term imo and set back the re-build further.

Re: McEvoy to Hawthorn
If TRUE?
I believe it is a win for the SAINTS !
Selection # 18 would get us closer to selecting another quality midfielder or key defender as required, plus Savage is a ready made mid who goes pretty well !
IMO McEvoy is an average ruckman and I don't believe he will improve. He doesn't have any leap or awareness of what's going on around him. He is another Kosi when it comes to the ball in the air if someone bodies him while he is in motion he is lost. Best to get what we can for him before Hickey and others go sailing past him and he is worth much less.

Re: McEvoy to Hawthorn
Although I don't totally believe this rumour, i've always had a feeling that we might look at shopping McEvoy around.
Pick 13 for Hickey was a big price to pay for a back up ruckman, especially when our 1st choice ruckman wasn't much older than him...

You and other people do realise savage averages 13 possessions a game. 13. As many as Buddy kicked goals in a game. And even in his 4th year it was still 13 possessions. How is this guy a ready made mid?

Re: McEvoy to Hawthorn
McEvoy has some real upside but winning tap outs isn't one of his strong points and our current midfield isn't good enough to shark the oppositions tap outs.Sobraz wrote:Obviously Pelchin still working for the Hawks if true.
We should take it, it may well help us going forward, sometime during this month of player swapping at least one of these stories will come true. So far they ALL
seem like crap when we are involved but you never know...
Maybe we want Longer to partner Hickey
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Agree. I found our pursuit of Hickey puzzling as well as did many on here.SaintSimmo wrote:Although I don't totally believe this rumour, i've always had a feeling that we might look at shopping McEvoy around.

I think we all felt why go for a ruckman the same age as Ben with a high pick and high $?
We only really needed a back-up kinda guy and then a kid which we got (Pearce) - we also had Rhys.
So 12 months ago - it seemed Pelchen wasnt sold 100% on Ben so its no surprise.
Bloody Risky though
If Hickey and Rhys work out and Savage and pick 18 work out - Pelchen is a genius.
If not hes a disaster.
Earning his cash (or otherwise) on this decision! Balllsy as.
