Re: North offer Pick 26 & Luke for Dal
I thought Dal was still contracted for next year and therefore can't go via free agency.
We can get Bruce for nothing via the pre season draft.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Re: North offer Pick 26 & Luke for Dal
Don't think we ought to be worrying about trading fairly with North. But GWS we might want to be nice to as they might have a few players in the next year or two we might want look at. If we keep anyone on-side, let it be be GWS.3rd generation saint wrote:I thought Dal was still contracted for next year and therefore can't go via free agency.

4 and 40 ?Gershwin wrote:I'd take it.
Isn't our strategy to develop a playing list for say 2016?
Dal won't be there and neither will Fisher.
If we can get Delaney and Bruce and also have 4 picks under 40 then that's about the best we can hope for.
We lose Dal and Fisher which is sad but heh this is AFL 2013.
To do any better then we have to offer better players. Nobody wants Gwilt, Gilbert, Ray etc.
And I don't want to lose McEvoy, Armitage etc. who could/should be there in 2016.
What happened to 3 and 21 ?
It all depends on whether delaney is any good or not.
If delaney is good and we get 3 21 bruce delaney
Thats good going.

Re: North offer Pick 26 & Luke for Dal
Bugg is worth pick 10 and Bruce probably pick 26.saintsRrising wrote: Fisher + 26 for Budd & Bruce.
So lose Dal and Fisher, but gain Budd, Bruce and Delaney. Maybe with a 4th rounder thrown in from GWS as they would not use it anyway.
So essentially you are saying Fisher for pick 10.
Sadly thats too heavily weighted in our favour

This from The Age :
"The AFL has cleared the path for Nick Dal Santo to be treated as a free agent should he and St Kilda not act on trigger clauses in his contract to renew his term at the Saints for another year.
The AFL's Ken Wood has considered the Dal Santo situation and concluded that if the player and club are prepared not to re-sign they were comfortable for him to be treated as a free agent.
Other clubs have questioned whether the .................................................."

Re: North offer Pick 26 & Luke for Dal
Elaborate. I think keeping dal for 3-4 more years would be better than a 5th in line AFL Defender and pick 26 (Which would turn out to be 28 after the Buddy & Daisy compos). Unproven and a big risk. While Norf would have a 250+ game 3x AA player who is still a gun.saintdooley wrote:Your all delirious, the fact we didn't say deal within seconds worries me.

North can insist that its a good deal all they like but if St Kilda and Nick Dal Santo don't then it isn't. Those comments stink of the bully boy attitude that clubs think they can take with us and I for one am sick to the back teeth of it

I really think we just keep dal and get one of these blokes in the psd.
Unless we genuinely believe both are guns.
Then trade for one and get one in the psd.
Delaney is better than mitch brown and everyone wanted to do mitch brown for pick 25 last year.

I agree we should keep Dal but he must accept another contract else trade him. Don't want another Goddard.

Other clubs are interested in Delaney, particularly Brisbane. His manager said:Con Gorozidis wrote:I really think we just keep dal and get one of these blokes in the psd.

'Size said if Delaney could not get to the Saints he would be prepared to move to a non-Victorian club if given a long-term contract, having been prepared to join the Lions in last year's trade period.'
Same with Bruce.

Almost everyone here agrees that it is a terrible deal. However, we shouldn't just be preaching to the choir about this. Please, if you haven't done so already, email the club and let them know in no uncertain manner how you feel about this.

Re: North offer Pick 26 & Luke for Dal
Lets be honest. If you rate Delaney its a very good deal. If you dont rate Delaney as i dont then its an ordinary deal. The club have to decide how they rate Delaney and seen they are chasing him they obviously rate him well enough so the club must take the deal.

I like the deal. Let him go, get this Delaney guy and more importantly, the pick in the draft.
For all the crap we got about losing Barry Hall, let's hope Delaney can play and pick 26 turns into a star.
I also don't mind helping out Norf in their quest to win a flag - I like the way they play and you never know, they might just knock off Colonwood or Girlong for us in a Granny with Dal winning the Norm Smith. I wouldn't mind seeing that. Better Norf than if we were trading him to most other clubs.

I'm starting to think we should keep Dal. That deal isn't convincing and although Dal didn't have is best year in 2013 it might be better sticking with the devil you know and turning him into a one club player and try and reap the benefits of that.

Four picks under 40. Not picks 4 and 40!
If we do the Dal deal we will end up with 3, 21, 26 and 39 (i think)...Hence four picks under 40.

If Dal wants to go which looks increasingly likely we should take that deal!

EXACTLY. And every lazy "Footy Journo" in this town has swallowed the carp pedalled out by Brad Scott and the Norf PR people !!

Re: North offer Pick 26 & Luke for Dal
And that's EXACTLY why they haven't made an offer. You are able to work it out, I am able to work it out, yet not one of the lazy footy journos can work it out. Or is it because these lazy journos know that they can get a FREE FEED every other week at North? !!dragit wrote:North don't want to give up their first live pick… 26
They would be desperate to get Dal via Free Agency surely?

Re: North offer Pick 26 & Luke for Dal
The big question mark for me is Delaney.
I rate Brown, Delaney and Bruce all pretty similarly at the moment, that is to say big, but not very good.
Brown and Delaney are both 24 ( Dawson was 23 when we got him ) and even as talls should be starting to play some good footy.
Bruce is 21 and a bit bigger. While its no sure thing that he'll be a gun, you have to consider that he has more potential.
But I'd have to consider 26 and Luke for DalSanto a fair trade.
If it comes down to either one or the other of Bruce and Delaney though, I'd rather DalSanto go free agency and we try to get Bruce.

Re: North offer Pick 26 & Luke for Dal
Michael Gleeson of The Age suggests Dal Santo as a free agent would trigger compensation of either a mid second round pick or end of second round pick.
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/d ... 2v6ey.html
Buddy will certainly deliver Hawthorn a first round compensation pick ahead of Dal Santo.
These picks mean no better than pick 22 or no better than 39.
Trading Dal as a contracted player for pick 27 (Buddy will make it slip at least one place) is a good deal if we get Delaney thrown in.
Delaney plus 27 is probably better than 22 and certainly better than 39 .
