Re: Bill Davoren must go
Con you average about 30 topics a year and get carried away for a week or two and then get bored of it. Im sure you will soon get bored of this because i doubt you or anyone on here have any knowledge of whether this guy is good or not because unlike players i doubt many if any have seen him work. What is your next topic? Id like to do some research beforehand.

Dont focus on me.
This isnt about me.
Does noone else think we were not physically strong enough in 2013?
Do you feel we improved or went backwards in our 2012/13 pre-season training?
Where do you rate us on physicality and contested situations in 2013 in the AFL?
Does his record with the Bulldogs fill you with confidence?
Do you think Female triathlon and body shape is right for footy?
Do you think he has the right experience?

Focasing on you because as a supporter I am unable to say whether the answer to any of those questions is the fault of the fitness person. You seem to know more than any other supporter on here. I will try and answer anyway.

I don't know what's going on at the club in this area and dare I say neither do you. But regardless of that, how is it the choice of us Saints fans?
Ok ok in being melodramatic i know
But i think im asking a fair question overall.

So Con, should we find this guys coach?
How about we just wait until they finish their current review, and see what the clubs direction is?

I don't think that you are asking a fair question at all. The title of this thread is that ..Davoren must go.. it's obviously a statement and seemingly based on you adding A, B, C, D & E together and coming up with you're own answer. (Which, at a time when lots of external sources are having pot shots at us seems like a very poorly timed case of white anting.)Con Gorozidis wrote:We we could riot?Dr Spaceman wrote:Con, you seem quite obsessed with this stuff.Con Gorozidis wrote:This is your choice saints fans

The club is doing a review, who are we to suppose that we know more than them.
It's a shame ignorance isn't painful

I stand by the question and flagging the issue though.
Not say I know for sure. But Im flagging that its nqr and I have spelt out my reasoning for my belief.

If true WOWEE. Im pleased and I was on to something and wasn't the only one having these thoughts. I'm sure the players themselves know the score and possibly mentioned it in their end of year review interviews.

im just after balance
Good and hard bodies in the clinches but can still run and spread and defend.
Its a very fine balance
I'm not saying its easy to do. Its not.
Just saying I think we swung the pendulum too far towards aerobic last season.
A midfield of bodies like Snowsill,Moffat and Jacskon will win you a lot of triathlons and lots of outside run but zero games of footy.

Re: Bill Davoren must go
You want another one to join the increasing exodus, maybe they should give Michelle Bridges a callCon Gorozidis wrote:Our head of fitness simply must go.
He is not suited to the job and must be sent back to Female Triathlon where he belongs.
I have become utterly convinced of this.
This is not a witch or looking for someone to scapegoat or blame for 2013.
But I have been seriously concerned about how our side looked and performed in contested ball, collisions, marking contests and tackling since i saw us run out in the opening NAB cup.
Now After years of success coaching female triathletes Davioren saw an opportunity to make some money by swtiching to AFL. Fair enough. This is no vendetta.
He arrived at very good mature Bulldogs list and they did well in 2009. Probably despite him. But he then catalysed the rapid demise of their list and rapid fall to mediocrity non competitiveness and outside running bruise free footy.
The dogs soon looked thin and frail like school boys. In 2011 they conceded they were in a rebuild. In 2012 they finished 15th. They were easy beats.
In 2013 he arrives at the Saints who whilst on the decline had surprised many with their feisty competitive footy in 2012.
In one summer he put his stamp or 'limprimatur' (sic) on his new side.
By February it was clear the Saints were gaunt frail and thin.
They were playing outside bruise free footy. We had become soft in the contest after four months of summer running.
They couldnt stand up in a tackle and they didnt hit hard.
They were easily knocked aside.
In fact like the Bulldogs of 2011 and 2012 the Saints were starting to play like female triathletes.
Sure we had some outside run. Maybe even some fitness. But we were not equipped to deal with the collisions wrestles and hand to hand combat of footy.
Please wake up.
He turned the Dogs into a bunch of female triathletes and now we are letting him do the same to us.
Thats what he knows so thats what he will do.
This has been a huge mistake.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Lenny has had 13 years to build up and Davoren has only had one season at the club.plugger66 wrote:Con Gorozidis wrote:plugger66 wrote:Con you average about 30 topics a year and get carried away for a week or two and then get bored of it. Give him another summer to transform our playing list from hardened footy players into outside running female triathletes. It took him 2 years at the Dogs to complete his mission! We don't want to rush the bloke.

Re: Bill Davoren must go
So am I the only one not happy with our physical presence and ability to win physical contests in 2013?
Everyone else is happy with that part of our game? We did ok in that area you think?
Everyone else thinks he did well at the Dogs and they were competitive or that he improved them?
Everyone else thinks triathlon training is a good background for a footy club?
Everyone thinks we play hard footy?
Knock me down with a feather.

This year the playing group was weak, slow, unfit and injury prone. Doesn't reflect well on a new fitness manager.

Five years in afl systems, apparently sought after by one of the "big" clubs. Maybe he actually does have something to offer? In all honesty I wouldn't hope to know but I fully expect the club does and I'm perfectly happy to trust their judgement.
