Peake played some real good footy for us ... in the end he stayed one season too long and that makes people forget how big of an improvement he made to his game when he got to the Saints ... Gamble was a dud and Polo was serviceable ..

A few rumours getting around that Dayle Garlett is on the radar of at least one Victorian club.

I think we need to take a chance with Garlett.

I'd bite your hand off for that one.

Hawks would expect something else back, maybe #42?

he has changed his ways .... as i mentioned a while back he had been in contact with a Victorian club (no idea who) since about May this year .. they set him some guidelines or more to the point targets to meet both physically and personally , Dayle spent the whole year working on those things and with a big chunk of help from his girlfriends family and the coaches down at Swan districts achieved all of that ... he had one small indiscretion where he was late for an appointment but other than that has had an event free year , his times on the track have improved and he is in the best shape of his life physically .. without talking to him i also think he is mentally in a much better place the old swagger he once had that gave the impression of him not giving a F about anything has been replaced with a real look of determination .. he knows that this is his last shot at it and i think the penny has finally dropped for him ...

who ever gets him (and i do hope we have a crack) will be getting a real player with him... how he go's once in an AFL club well thats still to be seen so whoever he go's to will ned to have a strong possitive influence on him or he could go off the rails ...

cant see us getting pick 18 for mcevoy tbh

thanks trav
im just worried that once he is on a list and starts to cement his spot he thinks he has made it and goes off the rails again

but
in saying that
you would be closer than most of us being over there and this is some good news
ive heard we have been watching his progress thru out the year as would have a few other clubs i reckon
depends where he goes in the draft order
do we use our pick in the 20s if he is still there at that time??
we really do need another pick in that 10 to 15 area i reckon
hopefully we can wangle this somehow without giving up dal or joey

jsut reported on TWR that garlet was out drinking and smoking a few days before the draft camp thingy this year and a few were not happy about this
not too smart making your FB page public

but
we'll see i guess

Maybe im reading it wrongly because I think McEvoy can play but pick 18 doesnt seem enough for me and I have no idea why we would get rid of him for pick 18 anyway. Again probably because I think he can play and he is in the right age group. If we have to get rid of players then get rid of our 29 and 30 year olds.

That drinking and smoking incident was prior to last years draft. They did say there's been mixed reviews about Garlett this year tho. Trav's angle is one of them. He's to great a talent for a club not to take a punt. We could do worse than select Garlett with a late pick or rookie him. There's no way a club will use a pick in the first two rounds on him. Too great a risk.

on the Garlett thing there was story on him in today West Australian about how he has dropped from 85kg to be 73kg and skin folds have fallen from 68mm to 53mm his 20m sprint and agility times improved on last year's results ... he has given the boooze the boot and is keeping his head down to do everything to get a shot at the big time

Collingwood had to give up pick 15 +46 for Jolly, I'd expect at least that for Macca.

Interesting range of opinions about what big Mac is worth isn't there? For mine, he's a good around the ground ruckman but nowhere near good enough in the actual ruck itself. I don't think he is in the top 20 rucks in the league and hence I would think he is probably worth around #25.

If only we'd picked up the guy taken a pick after our instead in the 2007 draft... Paddy Dangerfield...

Well there you go, I would be wanting more than DP 18 for McEvoy. They would need to add a Jon Simpkin, Liam Shiels or another DP at least IMO

Not sure why they would trade the No 1 ruckman at all - the bigtime Hawker will probably go for Billy Longer if they can.

Ben Griffiths and Jake Batchelor both re-signed with the Tiges this afternoon. Only one year contracts but that takes them out of the running for us.

I don't think we will use 4 picks. Delaney is a fringe player at North and a 3rd round pick should be enough -if GWS want Fisher we possibly add the 4th round pick to get Bruce. We would be crazy to trade McEvoy -he is just maturing as a ruckman and falls into the age bracket that we are light on for. Also we would be exposed badly in the ruck with an inexperienced Hickey and an injury prone Stanley with no cover for injury.

So you actually think the side will improve with just 2 picks plus as you call him a fringe player, maybe generous, and Bruce. Its going to be long road back if we do it that slowly.

With 2 very good youngsters (pick 3 & 21) plus the continued development of all the players we blooded this year. We may still delist another and pay out their contract (like TDL)

We need 4 picks IMO, at least, because if you have 2 one could easily be a failure based on averages which leaves us with one pick to improve the side and for all the improvement in younger players the older ones will get worse.
