Re: No GWS for buddy
I am so over bloomin' football!!!! The smaller Victorian clubs (for that matter, most of the Victorian Clubs) no longer stand a chance. After the Essendope scandal and now this, I have just about had enough of football and I am ready to turn my back on it. Imagine an extra 1 million in our cap? We may have kept Goddard, Geelong may have kept Gary and Buddy most likely would not be going anywhere.
This is so wrong on so many levels. How in the heck can they fit both Franklin and Tippett in their cap? Are the other players only being paid $150-$200K a year?

If true, that's a f&$king disgrace. HOw on earth can they afford him? Either their compensatory salary cap is too generous, or they're straight out cheats. Probably both!
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Re: No GWS for buddy
Lose Mumford $500k a year
Goodes drops $300k in the last year of his contract
Bolton on $300k goes
White who wants $300k a year gets traded for a draft pick.
The AFL will pay some of the money for ambassadorial BS as well...
Probably see McVeigh and O'Keefe drop money for a last premiership too.
Their remaining mids are young and probably not on much coin, kennedy is probably paid the most.
They have a high/low model, interesting....

Re: No GWS for buddy
theyll just back end his contract until goodes and okeefe retire
as much as we hate it and as much as it is a shite system...the swans have played this quite well
matner gone
white will go
mumford wants out
bolton gone
goodes at the ass end
okeefe at the ass end
back end buddy until they are both gone
the timing has been really really sweet for them, as much as it pains me to say it

Re: No GWS for buddy
I reckon Hawks fans would understand if he went to GWS. But going to a premiership rival will hurt his legacy. Where's the money coming from? If Sydney players get a cost of living allowance because it's more expensive up there, shouldn't Melbourne-based teams get more room in the cap than teams from Adelaide? Why the need for the allowance, anyway? It's not as if they're on minimum wage.
Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.

Then we have the GC and Brisbane where property has crashed.

Re: No GWS for buddy
I think that the Swans have got to seriously the risk of killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. The AFL hierarchy presumably wanted Buddy to go to GWS. The other AFL clubs are going to be apoplectic at first Tippett and now Buddy going to the Swans.
Perhaps this will inspire a majority of the clubs to want to take a serious look at the salary cap loading. The difference between Sydney and Melbourne rental prices are not as great as they once were. If any city demands a salary cap loading, it's Perth.
This is all quite a mess.

Im with you on this. it will not make the AFL or the clubs happy but i also think it is risky for the Swans to lose these players that they will have to lose to get Buddy.

Mate I've lived in Adelaide for the last 10 years and let me tell you with the morons and drivel you have to put up with in this town you should get an extra 20% if you have to relocate here !!ctqs wrote:I reckon Hawks fans would understand if he went to GWS. Re: No GWS for buddy
Don't get caught up in the name.... The whole 'living allowance' thing is a thinly veiled PR exercise.
Cost of living has gone through the room out west in the last decade, the dockers and eagles get no such compensation.
It is what it is being used for.
That is- 10% extra to prop the non AFL heartland clubs so they can get and retain gun players.
gun players= success= more supporters= more money.
The AFL have sunk an awful lot of money into Sydney, and they are looking for a return on their investment.
The big question is- who will GWS chase now with all that cash?
Obviously Boyd is now the lockiest of locks that ever locked to go number 1.

I bought a shirt from Target once.
It had a hard tag on it too.

And so goes any chance that any club had of prising Patton out. Securing Boyd with their first pick is a certainty

Re: No GWS for buddy
.....I've heard that Tom Mitchell didn't originally want to go to Sydney under the father-son rule, but the offer they gave him was too good to refuse, $500,000 in his first season, then $50,000 per year for the next 2.
So if that's true, then that frees up $450,000 for next year & the one after.
