Always a spud, and I really cannot understand the love for him by Saints supporters. He cost us dearly in '09 and '10.

Re: Dawson
Never had any love for him. He was solid in defense for the most part, but was like you said a spud. No football smarts on that kid. I'm guessing that is why Hawthorn were wise enough to let him go.Bernard Shakey wrote:Always a spud, and I really cannot understand the love for him by Saints supporters. Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!

Well that clearly isnt true but some people are that one eyed they dont use facts to help their discussion. Zac certainly wasnt the worst today unless people think Roughead was good. i dont.

And dont you recall the sudden improvement in our defence in 2012 and 13 once he left?

Re: Dawson
He was helped by playing in a good side, but his form was hard to fault in 2009 in particular. If he wasn't doing well Lyon wouldn't have been forced to keep Max out of the team.

I think it was three on Gunston and two for Roughie, he was unlucky not to get the Norm Smith as I rated him Hawthorns best player todayEnrico_Misso wrote:How may goals did Gunston kick on him?

As for Lake, he was always a gun, had an injury then lost confidence, but he is a fantastic defender (with maybe iffy kicking at times if being picky).
Lakes form and story would have to have driven Dal or Chips' value up a bit I would've thought (hoped)

Re: Dawson
So ZERO kicks to Zachary
But he gave away FOUR free kicks.
And had 4 or 5 goals (out of a total of 11) kicked by his man (Gunston/Roughie).
Good on you Ross.
Keep playing him.
Keep believing in him.
CAUSE NO-ONE ELSE DOES !!!!!!

Wikipedia needs some editing.
"2010- Dawson was named St Kilda player of the finals series (jointly with Lenny Hayes)"
OMG you could not get two more dissimilar players. EVER.
What garbage.

Re: Dawson
I'm no fan of Zac's -- and yes, his errant kick across goal gifted Hawkins with the goal that wasn't -- but in the same game ('09 GF) he peeled off his man and ran 30 metres at top pace to effect the impossible spoil on G. Ablett (only to have the dislodged ball land on Scarlett's boot and get returned with interest). Still, it was an amazing spoil. It might have won the game. Unfortunately the only other Saint in the vicinity was Kosi.

Without McPharlin and Johnson lending Dawson a hand they are vulnerable.LTN16 wrote:That doesn't mean jack s*** if ya no good!St Ick wrote:But he is a defender over 195cm!
It sh!ts me to tears that Saints fans go on about Zac being needed on the monster forwards when he was with us. Our other defenders and defensive game covered for passengers like Zac in 09/10.
Is Gungston a monster forward? Why do you think Clarko instructed his players to isolate Zac against his opponent?
Clarko had faith in a bloke shorter than Zac who's probably about 10kg lighter than Zac and Dawson did his usual thing and panicked.

Zac played on Roughead after every goal was kicked. Zac occasionally ended up on gunston but was definately on Roughead for most of the match.

Re: Dawson
Zac is perfect for Lyon's game style. He is good in a defensive group. he's far from a spud but does do some mystifying stuff sometimes. He was actually excellent the week before and he had some very good finals games for us too. He has played in 4 grand finals as a KPP so he can't be as bad as people think. The Hawks let him go after Clarko played him as a KPP before he was ready. He was like Rhys Stanley this year when he was in the Hawks seniors totally lost his confidence.
we probably would have kept him if we didn't pay our top 6 players 40% of the cap.
