Re: Nettlefold Quits
In his tenure he was responsible for;
- letting the best coach in the AFL walk.
- replacing him with the worst coach in the AFL
- Goddard leaving which was a domino effect
- Setting up at Seaford which is slowly killing us
- the poorest salary cap position a few years ago
- and about to release a $4m loss for this year
Today is a day of celebration.
The worst CEO we have had since Archie Fraser.
Can we actually get someone good this time?
Go and get the best, Brian Cook, except nothing less.
He nearly went to North last year, must be gettable.
Nettlefold, see ya, wouldn't want to be ya!

The bloke is worth a packet, has worked his arse off for the club when he had no need to. Yes he's been well rewarded, but so is every CEO in the competition.
He's done 5 years. That's about as much as you actually want from any CEO - and make no mistake, Nettlefold has been great. His one blemish is the Lyon situation. Otherwise I think he's been great for the club. Anyone who has dealt with him behind the scenes should acknowledge that.
Let's hope we find a good replacement.
Terry Dillon we poached from the Hawks as Nettlefold's 2IC. Might get a promotion.

- So Roscoe wasn't enticed by the $1M+/p.a., with the 1st (?) take a guess yrs paid up front by Woodside Petroleum?
- It is an opinion based industry, I 'spose
- In the 2 years after '10, what'd he have - 1 low level top 10 B & F rank - yet he demanded to be the club's highest paid player? Spare me. Even at his best, he preferred to wander across h-b and receive.
- As previously advised, not Nettlefold
- Ya reckon GT might have had something to do with the "poorest salary cap position a few years ago"? How many blokes were signed to deals like Hamill, Penny etc during Nettlefold's reign? How's the salary cap position now?
- Don't buy the "loss" narrative without understanding the diff b/w (e.g.) cash and non cash items. I even know accountants who got sucked in by the write downs of Moorrabbin as if they were relevant to cash flows. The other thing to acknowledge is this is not a profit driven organisation - no AFL Club is. AFL Clubs are part NGO and part socialist beneficiaries. If ya reckon they should be treated as profit driven enterprises it would be about a 6 team competition, because the rest would have been declared bankrupt or insolvent at some point in the last 4.5 decades.
So you're celebrating, whoopdee do. What exactly? The departure of a bloke who left managing a multi $M private business to help out his old footy club, and earnt significantly less than he could have done by staying where he was? Or the bloke who negotiated a deal with the AFL that placed us in much the same "growth corridor" club status as GCS and GWS?
- Isn't he the only CEO since Archie Fraser?
- What d'ya reckon Brian Cook might cost? D'ya think there might be some competition?
So ya wouldn't want to be Mick Nettlefold? How are things going just ATM?
By f*** we're a proud bunch of scapegoat seekers.

New president Peter Summers said Nettlefold, who moved into the role of CEO after being a board member for five years, had not been pushed into resigning. "I can absolutely guarantee you the call came from Michael," Summers said.
‘‘He raised the idea with me several weeks ago. We have been going through reviews of the club, some are normal, some are a bit more [pointed] given we are a club in transition, and as part of that he said, 'I am considering where I am at'."

Ps is that correct that the CEO's salary is $750k. If so that sounds preposterous to me. An organisation with a turnover in the 10s of millions has a CEO with a salary that high? No wonder we're in the soup financially.

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Nettlefold Quits
Has anyone considered the fact he maybe tired and worn out from having to deal with a large multi- million dollar organisation that brings with it-some players who just don't get "it " whatever "it" is, plus the board, coaching panel politics, some supporters who will never be happy, plus a so called Saints supporting radio announcer who is never happy with anything in life or with the Saints.
And that's just for a start.
So maybe he's burnt out and with a decent income at the back from selling his business a few years ago, it's become the point to call time.
Considering the circumstances this club and players hgas found itself over the last years, I'd would have had enough too, and if any if you out there think you can handle this unrelenting pressure then apply for the job.
We have had highlights as well but they get lost in the sensation hugging headlines of other matters.

A highly rated coach
Moved from Moorabbin to Seaford
Lost membership
Dropped from 2nd to 9th to 16th in three years
Bailed on 500k tassie deal which powerhouse hawthorn now benfit
The failure of two vfl alignments
More off field drama than any other club, culture is still poor
Appointment of poor recruitment and development staff
Now he is jumping off a sinking ship
Just some home truths....

Re: Nettlefold Quits
He maybe had stuff to contend with behind the scenes that we don't know about. But as I have said before, his expertise lay in the advertising world, and over 5 years our lack of meaningful sponsors means that his tenure has to go down as a fail. All the negative publicity would not have helped, and selling to sponsors who didn't want to be associated with Centrebet would have been difficult. But that was his 'area' and he really didn't do much, or inspire others to do it.
So, even though he was and is a good Saints man, he needed to move on.
