Re: Saints at the Brownlow
Round 5 in NZ
Riewoldt N
27 possies
13 marks
7 tackles
2 goals 1
Clearly best on ground in a tight game in my opinion.
Brownlow votes - Donuts
It must also be said that if you get 47 possies, including 34 kicks, 12 marks and 2 goals in a strong win and don't get 3 brownlow votes, you should consider yourself unlucky. I suppose one of either Monty or Jack had to get 2 votes in the Freo game.

He is not a midfielder, so the umpires dont see him.
Lance or James??

What makes this worse is that the 3 votes went to Ted Richards who had to be moved off him at half time.8856brother wrote:Round 5 in NZ

In an era of sports betting fraud, something like this needs to be more accountable

final siren rating - 153
Richards
16 disposals
7 marks
3 tackles
1 goal
final siren rating - 82
I've said for a long time, the umpires just aren't the best people to be judging who is BOG, they should be too busy concentrating on the contest to even notice who is doing what.

How does Tom Lynch kick 10 goals but not get 3 votes? Regardless who he plays agains

He is not a midfielder. Ineligible for the Brownlow

Riewoldt was in vintage form. He ran Ted Richards ragged for a half before doing similar to Heath Grundy, and played a game that coach Scott Watters said "just reeked of one of the great captains".

In any other weekly voting awards do players apart from mids get votes. Lets face it, it aint only the browmlow that gives votes mainly to mids and also lets be honest mids now win the games for the sides and that why we need more quality mids. Forget the big men. get them with later picks and develop them unless they are so far ahead of any other player.

My question would be if the umpires arent the best who is the best because it seems all the media awards arent the same results either. being an umpire over many years I reckon it is the easiest place to see who is best. What you cant see is the job players do for the team but thats what club B&F are for.

Did you watch the sydney saints game?
Was Richards the best & Fairest player on the ground?
Riewoldt was clearly the best player on the ground, was he unfair to a point which negated his influence on the game?
Who did he spray? Did it mean that his game was worthless…?
If anything McViegh was next best behind Riewoldt… Richards was completely toweled up and moved off the most dominant player on the ground.

If the umpires arent the best to vote for the umpires award then who is? Even in the paper and on radio we different best players just about every game and from my experience I have found it easier to vote for players when umpiring.

Maybe it should be votes out of 10.
Current flawed system gives three times as many votes for BOG than third best

Maybe they should go and watch the game again on tape before casting votes.plugger66 wrote:If the umpires arent the best to vote for the umpires award then who is? It's the games highest honour so when the umpires make a mistake on voting, it's a bit more important than a wrong free kick. Surely a player giving a spray doesn't negate his dominance on the match?
Did you watch the Sydney game? Was Richards the best & fairest player? He was flogged & had to be moved off Riewoldt. So those votes are clearly wrong.
