Not sure all of that lot would gel together to help us get our 2nd flag, a few of them would help the cause though.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

We had a chance to get Viv Michie but we got Sam Crocker instead.

D.Martin (RICH) Sounds like Watters doesn't want him around

Also: Sam Mayes (BL)
Hardingham (Ess) already have enough HBF
Dale Thomas (Coll) supposedly did a medical for the Saints - surely he goes to Carlton if anywhere

Crock 'r *$&#

Put him on the list :
Brad Howard, Nick Winmar, Cripps , Crocker

Armitage ahead of Riewoldt and Frawley.
Lynch ahead of all sorts of good players.

No wonder Lyon was so keen to trade, Polo was like a superstar compared to some of our choices.

I realistically think our trades could like this, as I said realistically.
We will get Bruce & 35 from GWS for Fisher.
Delaney from North for a third rounder or they will package Delaney with 26 for Dal
I think Ledger will want to go home, whether that's for Michie or 3rd, 4th rounder don't know.
We will probably look at 1 or 2 other fringe mids.

Fair points. No wonder Lyon didnt trust our recruiters.
Because they were effing terrible.
I think some of our fans feel the same way and thats why they dont trust youth and want to desperately hang on to the past 'almost is better than nothing' .
But we have no choice but to embrace the future and trust Elshaugh. So far hes got some rippers.

I think we picked Raph Clarke ahead of Reiwoldt? Which is just as bad! Armitage and Frawley were a different draft?

When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss

That could affectively give us Bruce and Delaney for Fisher ( pretty good outcome IMO ).
Your other alternative we end up with picks 3, 20( ish ) , 26, 35, 37. I guess that depends how good the 3rd round of the draft will be.
But we'd need to delist a couple more players to get them.

I'd prefer it if we could get Bruce and 18 for Fisher and 35.

2007 we needed a future ruckman and took the 2nd ruck in the draft - Kruezer was 1 and I think an argument can be made as to who got the better deal there.
2006 - I would argue this is still a moving target as Armiateg is still improving and J Riewoldt - who we didn't need that type of player - is the main challenger.
Far from out worst draft misses

Drafting a type of player with a first round pick, is dangerous, in fact madness... Because you overlook players

Simple philosophy which every recruiter agrees

Best available player....

How would the 2 Riewoldts have looked in the same fwd line 2009/2010

How would have Patrick Dangerfield or Cyril have looked in the same teams

While we're at it.... Jackson Trengove in 2008 instead of Lynch.... Fyfe in 2009 instead of Lovett

I don't think it is. Just drafting Ruckman with your first round is madness.

You mean to say we could have had Everitt and Veszpremi running around for us and we missed out? Hindsight is useless when talking about drafting BM

BM forgets you get players that you need, not just the next best player... no point having 5 ruckman etc, or 15 defenders. All to easy to look back at the past, heck, you could do it at any club.

If Lovett had actually worked out, we'd have a flag in 10, but the flog lost his ways. It was he that we needed, then and there, we didn't need a 18yo waiting a few years for him to develop, we got what we needed, but he went and stuffed it up.

Armo and Benny are good players imo.

I agree but they are not without their problems - some bigger than others

I like to see it from both sides

Not forgetting that Armo and Mc Evoy can be very good players as well

Posted this in the Dusty thread, but Niall suggests here GWS are interested in him now and could use their No1 pick
This would shift the goal posts a bit !
Boyd to Dees? Scharenberg then a possibility or trade pick 3 to them with or without Fisher for a package ?

It's common knowledge

You draft for talent,

and trade (Rookie, Pre Season Draft, Free Agency) for needs... Such as Ruck, FB etc...

It's what successful clubs, Hawthorn, Coll, Sydney, Geel have done....

Immediate concerns are never addressed by 18yo player anyways..... Ridiculous suggest, especially with ruckmen... Who are extremely hard to gauge at 17/18....

I agree DH
Armo and Ben are not flops.... But were not the best players available (in hindsight) ATT they were certainly in the mix.... However I think us and a couple of other clubs missed the boat on Frawley and Jack.... We had inside knowledge
If Ben was drafted because he is a Ruckman, well that's a mistake.... If he was drafted because he was rated higher than Danger... So be it?!
