Real pity. Great bloke and well liked by the playing group. I fear there's a bit of politics in this decision.

Is Pelchen behind it perhaps?tony74 wrote:Real pity. Great bloke and well liked by the playing group. I fear there's a bit of politics in this decision.
Also could be a cost cutting exercise possibly.

Great blokes losing their jobs is nothing new. What decisions had he been responsible for and what were his KPI's?tony74 wrote:Real pity. Great bloke and well liked by the playing group. I fear there's a bit of politics in this decision.
If he was part of the decision making that kept the players happy while sacrificing our future then I don't have an issue with his departure. If the club saves $100K or more by making his position redundant I don't have an issue.
If his role and tasks can be split between Bains/Pelchen and Watters and the assistant coaches I don't have an issue.

He'd be getting more than $100k.
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.
Re: Saints sack Greg Hutchison
Getting the boot may be a blessing for Hutchy. No longer has to work with Pelchen or Watter - two guys that in their own seperate ways are driving the club into the ground.
Re: Saints sack Greg Hutchison
Presumably you have some basis for that opinion?Bono wrote:Getting the boot may be a blessing for Hutchy. No longer has to work with Pelchen or Watter - two guys that in their own seperate ways are driving the club into the ground.

Agree great bloke, one of the genuine nice guys at the club. Kind of staggering decision. Seems like Pelchan just wants 110% control over everythingtony74 wrote:Real pity. Great bloke and well liked by the playing group. I fear there's a bit of politics in this decision.

He's had enough time to prove his worth to Pelchen. A 'head of' is boss of 'operations manager' so if he wasn't contributing/performing then that's just the way the crumble comes off the cookie.

Re: Saints sack Greg Hutchison
Keeping good blokes is bad culture.
Harsh, and does introduce some risk - but you've sometimes got to be a prick and get rid of good blokes if they're not the right people for the job.
Not necessarily saying Hutchison isn't any good, but the idea of this being a shame or sad because of him being a good dude can't be of concern.

Re: Saints sack Greg Hutchison
When a club rebuilds - it's not just the list that rebuilds.
For mine, as much as I'd hate to see Dal and Fisher playing somewhere else, and for good blokes like Hutchison moving on - I've officially accepted the end of the GT/Lyon/Roo era and am ready for the Pelchen/Watters/Steven era.
They need to be able to build what they want. There can't be any constraints.
Hutchison's gone - move on!

Re: Saints sack Greg Hutchison
Personally I felt Hutchy was a bit of an arrogant grump myself .... As a member of the supporter groups a lot of the problems we had over player access ect were from him ( understandably it made his job harder) ...

Re: Saints sack Greg Hutchison
Interesting to think about the role he played with players - and the resulting perception of behaviour. Maybe he was too close to the players. Maybe he didn't connect with the new younger players the way he did with the older crop. Maybe its just time for a different direction. New day, new blood.

Hell, there's probably no conspiracy here. He was made redundant, and that is probably a cost cutting measure.

Why are people debating this like we were all emotionally invested in him?

Made redundant , so I presume they won't be replacing him (Unless they want an unfair dismissal case) - at least not his previous role.BigMart wrote:Good football man.... Just moved on, to bring in a new... Who they would have earmarked...

Sounds like this cost-cutting is justified. If his duties can be easily absorbed by others in the department then we should definitely get rid of him and not waste the cash.stinger wrote:more on the subject
