Re: Dal Santo to North Melbourne
NDS has been a serviceable player for us this year, not really busting a gut and no game breaker. This is the hard choice to make- keep an older player who's best is behind him, or do a deal and grab the defenders we badly need to build the next successful team.

I like to hear your opinion, you just seem to keep piping up telling us you don't have one… anyway… no worries, sorry for niggling, it doesn't matter.Wayne42 wrote:I'ts a fan forum, you have an opinion, I might even have one, it doesn't have to be like yours or anyone else's, it's only an opinion.dragit wrote:Wayne42 wrote:

Re: Dal Santo to North Melbourne
I think its hilarious that we all hang crap on players like Bj and Ball when they walk out on the club but in the very next thread we are happy to cut loose loyal champions of the club because we think they are past their use-by date.
I spoke to Dal at length at the B&F and he is so passionate about the saints and definitely wants to stay, but to his credit, he said that he would always do whats best for the club and would accept a trade if thats what they wanted.
A true champion and good role model, something that we are in need of at our club and certainly worth more than a second rate defender and a second round pick.

No doubting NDS has been a fine StK man, but do we cling on to the past or move forward. If we have currency, then we use it.

Agree, I think the fact that he is willing to move for the good of the club says it all… he'd rather stay.BringBackMadDog wrote:A true champion and good role model, something that we are in need of at our club and certainly worth more than a second rate defender and a second round pick.
If we sell of a club champion it has to be better than a pick 28-30 and a VFL defender.
Like Brown, if Delaney was good enough, he'd have played more than 5 games in a side that finished 10th…

Re: Dal Santo to North Melbourne
It's sounding/looking like a done deal - Dal & a pick for Delaney. It has it's pros and cons for the Saints in restructuring for the future, but I hate to see champions go - it delutes the historical backbone of the Club. As its history gets diluted, Saints champions will feel more inclined to leave towards the end of their careers.
The Club and AFL generally is sliding towards "total commercialism," where players move for the money and/or better opportunities, rather than staying with a Club to help them through - I suppose that you can't blame them for that.
If "Club passion" dilutes over time, so then will memberships for all Clubs. People will only want to back "winners" - that is, the top 6 -8 clubs.

Re: Dal Santo to North Melbourne
The club wou;d be crazy to be duped into accepting a fringe defender and pick 26 for a top player like Dal Santo. He would be very valuable to us to help guide our many young inexperienced players.
One year will be our year

Would be surprised if he stayed now.

Re: Dal Santo to North Melbourne
Wonder if they will throw in a double with Delaney's younger brother?
As much as I hate to see great Saints leave , thinking rationally instead of emotionally we still will have Lenny and Montagna to help the young brigade and Dal will only be on the downslide as time goes on
In another year he probably does have much less currency.
I think that Delaney and pick 27 is not quite enough.

Trouble is the more players they chuck in the more we have to find to delist. If the younger Delaney is better than the older Delaney then just focus on him.supersaints wrote:Wonder if they will throw in a double with Delaney's younger brother?

Will be closer to pick 30 when Thomas, Franklin leave plus GWS & Melbourne compo picks are thrown in.MC Gusto wrote:Delaney can't get a game?! So it's pick 26 for dal. Rubbish trade if true

What pick do we all think Delaney would attract if he was going in this years draft - bacause that's wha tthe deal equates to, pick 26 and whatever pick Delany would require in this years draft.

Would Delaney get to the PSD, would anyone else take him?
Do we really want Dal (like BJ) or do we want to cash in his currency and his high wage?
What do GWS want for Bruce, can we 3 way trade for a ruckman out of North?
Do we need Bruce and/or Delaney more than Dal going forward?
Remember we wanted to trade two 2nd round picks for Brown last year, so losing Dal and his high wage and gaining pick 26 and Delaney seems a good deal compared to last year.
These are all the questions.

Re: Dal Santo to North Melbourne
St Ick makes a lot of sense to me and i wouldn't want to push Dal out for a pick lower than 15 lets say.
There is a lot of love for Dal but also some frustration as many of us know how superb his skills are yet he doesn't appear to be still developing and taking games by the throat - sorry but have to use the Judd example last week as some kind of comparison.
I don't want Dal to go but if he stays he and watterman need to make him more effective.
I doubt North have enough currency to get into a trade for him anyway maybe a Melbourne or Hawthorn or GWS/ Suns would ?????

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.
Re: Dal Santo to North Melbourne
God Dal is almost suspiciously nice - maybe he's got people locked up in his basement or something. If he's being floated as trade bait I've got to believe Watters has a bit of an issue with him at some level. I reckon Watters wants all mids to be able to win their own ball.BringBackMadDog wrote:I think its hilarious that we all hang crap on players like Bj and Ball when they walk out on the club but in the very next thread we are happy to cut loose loyal champions of the club because we think they are past their use-by date.

Surely it's got to be top 20. Otherwise I'm more than happy to keep Dal.

Are we happy paying him over 500K a year?Stillwaiting wrote:Agree, rubbish to get only pick 26MC Gusto wrote:Delaney can't get a game?! So it's pick 26 for dal. Rubbish trade if true
It's not just the draft pick and potential player, it's also the salary cap room.
What happens next year when he is a free agent?
We will get nothing.

there has always been a feeling that Dal is a little lazy and unlike Lenny is not unhappy to drift through life a little. I think his late season form was actually really good but he isn't the guy who will bust his gut so hard at training it leaves the kids awestruck at his work rate. I think that's why of all the seniors left he is the most vulnerable. Great skills though and a favourite son.

I don't think he cruises at all, it's damn hard breaking a tag, as Jack will find out next year no doubt.
If we land a serviceable key back or two, get some salary cap relief and a mid 20's draft pick then it's probably about right.
If he stays and we sign him for 2+ years front loaded fair enough, if he stays for the extension only, poor IMHO.

My sauces never speak to me. They just argue between themselves . Tomato s always saying its the most popular with BBQ starting to pep up at this time of year. Worstershire is always cocky . Tabasco is a fiery character as well. Don't get me started on mustard.Wayne42 wrote:My sauces tell me i'll know what Dal is doing in 2014 when the trade, free agency and draft period is done and the 2014 player lists are final.
As much as I like the speculation I prefer to deal in fact and by the time the final lists are settled, his status will be a known fact.
