no point going around signing whoever on big bucks willy nilly

having said that i dont think ive ever seen him play tbh
It won't be huge bucks… 600-800 for 3 years… (I imagine)…

We'll have a lot of cap room which we will need to fulfil and we'll just have to take the risk on some promising KPD as we have zilch really.

Sometime you have to pay overs to fill the holes in the list I guess & we can't afford to get through another trade period without adding at least one key defender.

Saints discussion and an ELO reference I don't think I could be happier.
I would imagine the reason he has nominated us is not money but opportunity.
He comes to us and immediately becomes our number one key back, the same cannot be said for North, Brisbane and Carlton.
Hell, Delaney wants out of North because of a lack of opportunity if you are a young player why go to a club where you will struggle to get a game.

What gets it done, 3rd rounder?
What about McEvoy, pick 21, & pick 3 for Pick 1, Bruce and Pick 9.
Effectively pick 9 and Bruce for McEvoy.
This would be fantastic, and I'd be all over it. But sadly I dont think GWS will be willing to give up that much for McEvoy.
I also think Jolley will now end up at GWS, and this would dampen their interest in Big Mc

Would not be surprised Jackson Ferguson's name comes up in trade time is from NSW .

GWS asked about him last year during trade time although his currency not as high

I do worry that we are going to pay overs for a KPD this year. The club is absolutely fixated on getting 1 or more KPD. You only have to look at the offer of 2 x 2nd round picks for WCE Brown last year to realise its going to happen again this year.

Whilst Im happy for the club to have a go at getting someone for very little I don't see why we should be paying overs this year or next year. Better to take our medicine , finish bottom 3 next year and top up on what is being spoken about as a really strong uncompromised draft in 2014 with quite a few talls on offer . Then really get into the ear of some KPD's during the 2015 season and throw the kitchen sink at a few KPD's to top up and start our charge up the ladder.

As for recruiting Josh Bruce, It would be a complete leap of faith on our behalf. He's only played 14 games and whilst he is 197cm and 93kg those stats alone don't immediately make him able to play KPD. You only have to look at Rhys Stanley who is both taller, heavier, 18 months older, played more games, and probably quicker to realise physical attributes are only a small but necessary pre-requisite.

Our 3rd rounder is going to be around pick 38 - which in most drafts is still good enough to pick up a reasonable player with, so unless we get an offer too good to refuse, personally I would try and hold onto all our picks under 40 (we picked up Murdoch at pick 40 and Saunders at pick 43 last year) . I don't think our 4th round pick will be of any interest to the Giants, so we either pay overs or we try and snag him in the PSD.

Remember we were prepared to give up pick 20 something plus big bucks for a hack like Mitch Brown.
So dont assume everything the club/Pelchen does is a killer idea.
Hopefully we dodged a bullet with Brown and this kid ends up better. Not without risks.

We might be hedging bets.
They are rumoured to be into Delaney as well.

Yep I reckon we will go for two tall defenders.
My only hope is we dont give up our top 2 draft picks.

happy with this... young but will grow well. Personally like to takee a punt on this young bloke over Norths Delaney. Happy to hear he wants to come to us... must show that Watters is doing something right, or he's a keen fire bug lol.

Now lets swap Dal to north for their top 10 pick and Majak Daw.... :D

So now we want an undersized ruckman ( abeit a high jumping one ) who is 8 months younger than McEvoy and has played 6 games, but we don't want McEvoy.

GWS will get Nathan Brown from Pies....so they'll probably accept a high draft pick for Bruce.

Some stuff about his career to date.

http://www.aflplayerratings.com.au/Rati ... Josh-BRUCE

6 Ess Showed some good signs forward and back. Likely type. Nice goal late.
7 Adel Started OK then had trouble with Jenkins and Lynch.
8 Haw Couldn’t stop Roughead in Hawks forward half.
9 WCE Taught some valuable lessons in a match-up with Darling.
10 Carl Played key back – Solid.
11 Geel Celebrated 21st birthday with a solid effort down back. Looks a player.
12 Port Matched up on Westhoff and competed hard, but needs to find a right foot.
17 Ess Matched up with Crameri, he showed more signs of his improvement this year.
18 Coll Had the job on Reid and competed hard but ultimately beaten on the night.
19 Melb Competed hard in defence and tackled well opposed to Watts.
20 Frem Battled hard and it was a great experience but outclassed at this stage.

So he's not a set and forget defender. Possibly someone who would benefit from having players like Fisher, Gilbert, Gwilt or Dempster close at hand.

He may have only been a zone selection, but as far as credentials go, he was an U18 all australian defender who was known to take many contested marks. So if he was in the draft in his year, he may have been a late first rounder.

Best result for both clubs is we get him for some experienced backs eg Gwilt / Fisher
At en of day they have 4 young key backs to compete with.

Glad he has picked us

Remember when Sydney paid heaps to get Mumford and everyone thought they might be mentally deficient? Unfortunately we can't get anyone else who is any better. He is young and has heaps of potential. I think he offers a bit more than Delaney as he look a bit more mobile.

Are any of them over 195cm & 90kg?

Just wondering because I haven't seen anyone in our defence like that!

I think we'll still go for Delaney as well!

Bruce at CHB, Delaney at FB.

Agreed - would rather a promising 195cm FB and see the back of Gwilt or Gilbert or Roberton etc rather than miss out.

I got so sick of the opposition mids bombing it into Jack Riewoldt, or Hawkins, or Tippett, or Gumbleton, or Petrie, or Henderson or <insert name of FF for every other team> and watch our undersized left footer backs get outmarked time and time and time again this year.

We HAVE to fix it. I dont expect miracles, I do expect someone who can at least compete.

Lance or James??
