Re: Would We Want Goddard Back?
Academic. He has left. Won't be back. Why would he? We were not his choice of club after all! I can still remember his face on the day we drafted him. He will end up at Carlton.
St Kilda forever ( God help me)
Re: Would We Want Goddard Back?
To me he's a "cream on the top of the cake" sort of player.
No point having the cream if we haven't got the top layer of the cake.

Come back BJ , all is forgiven , walk away from the drug cheats.
Great good to have you back , now we'll just on-trade you to Melbourne for their first pick.

Re: Would We Want Goddard Back?
I'd love him back, would romanticize about it, but then reality would set in I couldn't see it happening.
Who else could we take off their hands?
Who else could we take off their hands?
When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!
Re: Would We Want Goddard Back?
Would we welcome him back - YES
Will he come back - NO (I think)
BTW only Dopers player I would touch. We know he wasn't on the gear and pretty confident he wont get an infraction notice.

Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

I'd have no problem taking Carlisle off their hands even if he had to sit out for 12 months... Him, Heppell and Zaka, the others can wallow in their suspension...joffaboy wrote:Would we welcome him back - YES

Yes to this!!!Moods wrote:Yeah. Of course. for 400k he can come back. More than welcome.
I reckon today's BJ is worth $400K.
However...,
To show no hard feelings,
to show appreciation for the great games he played for us,
for going back on with the busted nose and collarbone in GF 2009,
so the bloke who took that mark in the drawn GF goes into the record books as a St Kilda player (one mistaken year at Bummerland becomes irrelevant and erased),
for turning up to see off our threesome when it was an Effndum match day...
I'd up that offer to $450K a year for three years, with a Dal-esque option on the fourth, a post footy gig at Coles, Shell, AV Jennings, Mushroom Records, etc, but a clause making him promise never to work for Toll, Spotless, the Hells Angels or Calzada Limited.

BJ is clearly worth the $750,000 he's getting paid, if we could've afforded it at the time, we would've paid it as well!!!

Yes I would have Goddard back at the Saints in a heartbeat. Odds of it happening might be 100-1 though.
No Contract, No contact

Not at all.The Saintsational Man wrote:Surely you're kidding?Dave McNamara wrote:Yes to this!!!Moods wrote:Yeah. Of course. for 400k he can come back. More than welcome.
I reckon today's BJ is worth $400K.
For that kind of money I'd rather Cotchin, Pendlebury, O'Meara or Dangerfield, or similar.
Or, for that kind of money I'd spend $650K on Martin (who could be as good as any of them if he got wants to be), and $100K on a 24 hour minder.

i'd take Goddard back in a heartbeat ... at mate's rates. Gun player and quality person.
Sadly, it is a fantasy and he is gone for good.

Re: Would We Want Goddard Back?
Gave his heart and soul to the club, his passion is still for this place, and I can't wait to welcome him back, either as a player or in an off-field role.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Star
But like many others, walked away.....
I think Ditterich came back?
But I'm sur he has a contract worth way to much for us, and little desire to return to a rebuilding club..

And that is an excellent reason why we let him go. I have no idea how you rate what a star is but for us he was excellent for 2 years and just above average in his final 2 years especially with the form he had shown previously.

He was very good after about round 12 in 2011 and I thought he wasn't great last year.plugger66 wrote:BigMart wrote:Star

Very good. Existential despair sits quite nicely with our brand.
Perhaps we should explore sponsorship options with SB's estate?
They will not grow old, as those from more northern States grow old.
For them it will always be three-quarter-time, with the scores level
and the wind advantage in the final term.
