Watters contract extension talk

Post: # 1386360Post busso mick »

At our stage I think it is a good idea, others may think otherwise.

I think he should coach in 2015.
Impossible to tell if he can coach at present with our list.
By the end of 2015 we need to be playing some good footy and winning some games.
2014 will be ugly.

No rush to extend him but it would take the pressure off if they did sooner rather than later.

I can see them extending early for 12 months. It wouldn't be a bid deal and it would show some confidence in him.

I'd like to see Scotty get a TWO year extension. Its a really busy time at all footy clubs right now and there is plenty of time. Get the deal done by Christmas and announce it Late Jan/Early Feb to give us a bit of momentum leading into the season !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

If you are going to follow the rebuild plan espoused by Pelchen then he needs to be there till 2017 - barring anything ridiculous going wrong.

Have no idea why you'd wait till next year to see how he's going with the expectation that we are going to be bottom 3 again. in fact if we climb too early we won't get the draft picks we want. Happy to watch us accumulate high picks over the next few years.

Give him an extension, his wife will be happy

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Why
Because when the list is rebuilt we need a coach who knows how to win FLAGS, not somebody who coaches for their own win/loss ratio and paypacket!

How do you know that is what Watters is doing, he is the mug that has to do the rebuild, he doesn't get the chance to coach a team capable of playing finals, he has to create one.

He could be a great finals coach, he probably will never get the chance, we are so far away from it. At least the Pelican knows where we are at.

He should at least get an extension to give the next coach a much better list than the one he got, F*** Ross, we didn't win a flag and we didn't develop..

I think you misunderstood my post.
I was talking about Lyon not Watters.
Agree Watters is an unknown quantity ATM, hopefully he and the group develop together
But if he needs replacing Lyon is the LAST bloke I would be going after!

Still have no idea why we would extend a contract of a person that isnt going to be chased after by another club.

I think it's a show of faith that he's on the right track. You encourage the rebuilding rather than the desperation he might feel to produce quick wins at the expense of development. It will probably take 5 years to rebuild and he might not see the fruits of his labour but he should at least be able to do his job unimpeded by the pressure of keeping his job. If he turns out to lose the players we pay him out like every other club does then the AFL can get us a new coach and board.

So we sign him because he might leave for some reason? My guess is if he leaves it will be because he is sacked especially if it is at the end of next year. lets be totally honest he will not leave at the fnd of next season because some other club wants him.

Isnt pelchan his boss? He isnt going to let SW change the way he coaches just to get more wins so he keeps his job.

I haven't said anywhere that we should resign him I've just proposed a hypothetical why you might. And guess what he may go for some reason we don't know...it does happen

I guess that's the point. He encourages the team he plays and gives him an extension because he's happy with what he's been doing.
