Re: Ross Lyon
Hate him but can he coach
One thing his stint at Freo will tell us for sure:
St Kilda either made a great move by not securing him earlier OR we made one of histories biggest ever c**k ups
I hope it ain't the latter

given we had him secured- he had a contract

Disagree.
Ross is easily the best coach of developed lists.
Thomas developed St.Kilda and Ross took over, Harvey developed Freo and Ross took over.
There is absolutely no evidence he can develop a list that he left ours in and that he will leave Freo's in.
Was terrific when we were after a flag, happy to see him go though, we need a coach that can develop youngsters.
Watters can do that. Give he a two year extension. After that time we would have had stability, and then know if he is the coach to take us forward.
In 2016 we will have a developed list, maybe Ross might come back
Lance or James??

100% agree, but many on here wont be able to swallow their pride and admit it!!!Con Gorozidis wrote:Best coach in the AFL.
Re: Ross Lyon
Best defensive tactical coach in the game I'll grant you. Despite Geelong doing a lot of stuff wrong it still went down to the wire as per usual with Ross' teams in finals. Pavlich willed them over the line like Roo did for us a couple of times in finals. Still not convinced they can kick enough goals in big finals to go all the way.Con Gorozidis wrote:Best coach in the AFL.

Cockups seem to be part of what we do....
Was a big win for them today in context.....
Agree hes the best coach ,cant be argued really.
Wrapped Geelong copped it,stuff them
100 goals in 14 games...Lockett is the key

Yes good points, but remember Geelong had everythign going for them, especially home ground advantage.
Great strangulation work by Freo.
Can they do that and keep it up against a Hawthorn at the MCG?
Now that would be interesting.
Still a great final to watch. Lyon coached teams tend to give neutral a good finals showing.
Lance or James??

Re: Ross Lyon
Yeah, I'm happy. Last week, we flog them by 12. This week they make the finals more interesting. Think Watters is doing a good job. Apart from the recent dwarf incident. But then Rossy had plenty of scandals to deal with too.

Exactly right.
Any doubters - book a ticket to the MCG next week to watch Geelong and have a good long think of why you are there.

Best coach in the AFL of DEVELOPED LISTS. Will be at Freo for 2 or 3 years and then will take over at Melbourne.

Re: Ross Lyon
Yes a very good coach, but freo's list was full of talent and players coming into their best years. He should win a flag with a list like that. He couldn't with us, lost focus, and took the big $$ & went to a ready made team.
He was not interested in staying and rebuilding the saints, he aint a re-building coach.
It would have been stupid for us to try to pay massive dollars for a guy who lost interest in us. Can't understand people here bleating like idiots about RL, as if magically we would now be playing for a flag.
Get over it.

Best tactical coach in the AFL. Develops a style to win, develops a plan to beat opponents and obtains players whio will execute selflessly. Fantastic man manager - Best coach in the AFL in 2013 ( Roos back in 2014)

And this wasn't a big final???
Not one other team could have done what Freo just did this arvo. He has put them in the box seat to play off in their first ever GF. They will play no-one now in the prelim. Hawks, cats pies are all on the other side of the draw. Sydney are too injury depleted from where I sit to make a real impact. Let's just give Ross credit where credit is due. Was an unbelievable effort. His team has kicked big scores this year - goal kicking isn't a problem for them.

Re: Ross Lyon
The Saints could have re-signed him with an extension early in the year, but chose not too. That left the door open.saintbrat wrote:Teflon wrote:Hate him but can he coach
