Best First Year Player Award
I dunno if the club has a best first year player award but the nominations would be:
Tom Lee
Tom Hickey
TDL
Dylan Roberton
Tom Curren
Nate Wright
Josh Saunders
Tom Lee
Tom Hickey
TDL
Dylan Roberton
Tom Curren
Nate Wright
Josh Saunders

Not sure Roberton (or Hickey) should be eligible for such an award, as they've spent years playing for another team.

There's some promise in that crop...
Early in the year it was Roberton who sprang out of the blocks and I'd go so far as to say was the general of our backline after fish got surgery... until, that is, he copped that concussion, and he didn't get back to that form again for the rest of the year.
Wright was another who sprang out of the blocks with his dash and breaking of the lines across half back before he, too, faded out, but showed more than enough in his games that he could well be a player.
Following the reverse trajectory to this were Tom Hickey and Tom Lee.
Hickey looked off the pace at first but has slowly but surely improved all year, and, though he still needs a fair bit of improvement yet, shows all the signs of being a long-term ruckman for the club.
And then there's Tom Lee, and oh my, I can feel the presence of a classic St.kilda cult champion full-forward in him, following in a long line of St.Kilda cult champion full-forwards from Gehrig to Hall to Lockett and beyond. He's got the gorilla full-forward look about him, the kind that opposition full-backs come to dread, and what I really love about him (despite the fact he's a dead-eye dick) is that he chases hard and lays a ferocious tackle. Just can't wait to see him develop over the next 2-3 years.

Re: Best First Year Player Award
Ok well I think Dylan is a a certainty for best first year at saints player.
But for pure best first year player i.e players who debuted in 2013 it's a bit tougher.
Curren Lee and Wright all with claims.

Re: Best First Year Player Award
The first 3 shouldn't be eligible as have played ales where prior to joining the saints.
Add Murdoch to the list.
I would give it to Saunders just ahead of Curren.

True. An award that makes these sort of guys eligibile would be a joke.battye wrote:Not sure Roberton (or Hickey) should be eligible for such an award, as they've spent years playing for another team.
My tip is Pammy. Wright was a gun early but faded due to injury issues
