Dustin Martin
According to reports, contract deals have stalled between Martin and the Tigers.
Saints are circling with a 4 year deal reportable to be approx 650k a year.
Thoughts?

Lance or James??

Haha not sure JB!
What would we have to give up for him though is the question? Dal and a late pick?

Re: Dustin Martin
He's not a free agent.. Restricted or otherwise. I wouldn't Too much if 650k is the case.
Re: Dustin Martin
Well if he goes into the PSD we would need him to drop past both the Giants and Dees, would find it hard to see either of those teams letting him go.

Re: Dustin Martin
If he's after money then surely GWS have more money to offer. And there would be other Melbourne based clubs willing to throw similar coin at him as us.
I just can't see why he would want to come to us when we are at least 3 years from finals and the Tigers look like they will probably be in finals for the next 3 years. Would be a ver odd decision.
If however we are driving up the price other clubs will have to pay to get/ keep him then I hope we go in hard as it will help our cause in a couple of years in squeezing a key defender or 2 out into the market.

Unless he's going to live with Roo or Lenny for a few years to get beaten into shape, I'm worried about his reputed off-field antics.Buckets wrote:Thoughts?

Re: Dustin Martin
If we get him i'd be slightly pieved .
He's a good player but has allot of baggage
His manager may be using us to try and get him a better deal . We should have shiploads to spend next year , yesterday's retirements would have freed up at least 500k.

We need some colour... All getting a little beige down there at the moment.White Winmar wrote:I can see another "colourful" chapter of our history developing.
GWS will be maxed out if they land Buddy... Melbourne will probably spend 900 on daisy.. To play 4 games per year like Clark & Dawes.
New # 3 mid, Martin, Hayes, dal, Joey, Curren, Newnes, cameos from wright, ledger, minchington, schnieder,
Would changes things in a hurry.

Re: Dustin Martin
If we could get him without having to give up pick #3 then you'd have to seriously think about it. A 22yo goal scoring mid... but comes with 'issues'...
Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...
Re: Dustin Martin
how do you really know what any player is like? it's just hype and media.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.
Re: Dustin Martin
650k seems fair to me and he is young and very good. probably no hope but does qualify under the age rules.
Re: Dustin Martin
Don't like it, you give 650K to Martin, then you find Steven is playing better for less money, so Steven gets pissed off.
Is McEvoy getting that much?

Re: Dustin Martin
Would take him in a heartbeat. Young and proven midfielder that kicks goals. To say NO would be a ridiculous decision.

Lenny has probably put up with players getting more money than him even though he is better. If Steven is happy with his contract then what someone else gets shouldnt worry him. Every players knows to get someone else from another club costs more than a player already at your club.
Re: Dustin Martin
It also concerns me that his best season was his first season.
( four seasons ago ).
From all the other stuff you hear about him, I could have suspicions about how he was such a powerful player at the start of his career, but they would only be baseless suspicions.
But it still concerns me that his best season was his first season.
