What happens with Jackson Ferguson next year?

Post: # 1382877Post kp83 »

Was having this discussion yesterday at the game and didn't really know the answer. Does anyone here know exactly how the rookie list works?
From memory he has been on it for 4 years now. Can he remain on it next year or are the only options to either promote him or delist him?
You would think given all the resources we have put in to him (especially this year) and our lack of tall defenders we would try to keep him.

Cheers and Go Saints!!

I would think they will upgrade him. tick a lot of the boxes physically that we lack, but I am sure those wiser than us will have already made that decision

Hasn't come on quickly enough imo. You look at a guy like Simpkin got promoted and still can't crack a spot in the 18.

He can be a rookie for 50 years if they want but its time to upgrade or let go. Injury this year will probably mean let go which is disappointing because I reckon he can play.

I think he has been with us for three years, but if we are not going to promote him after three years it is time to let him go.

Depends on whether the coaches think he has a good level of improvement left in him. Given we are going to be around the bottom next year he may get another look in but not likely. Also depends on what other options are around in the trade/draft.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Temporarily to fill a spot on the main list. Has to be formally upgraded at draft time in order to be officially on the list.

I'm pretty sure the limit is 3 years. I don't know how that is affected by him being a NSW scholarship player.

Bye Bye Mr Ferguson.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

I thought there was no limit any more? It's just that we can only keep him as a rookie by nominating him in the draft, so every other club gets a go at him beforehand. Not certain about that though.

Not everyone can stay, and unfortunately I don't think he's done enough to hold on to a spot.

There is a limit of 3 years but that means jack unless another club wants him. Im guessing no one else wants him.

Its a pity, but he seemed to go backwards a bit this year. In year's gone bye it would have been a no-brainer, but we'd have to delist a better player to give him a place.
