Shenton Might Not Make It
Shenton was OK for a while today but looked like he'd completely run out of petrol tickets by the start of the third quarter.
I have a feeling he doesn't have the tank for AFL football, and considering he's almost 23, is it possible for him to somehow become an endurance athlete? If not, he didn't really show enough special today to give me confidence that he's worth hanging on to for next year.

he's never been a player to win contested ball and this is his biggest weakness. I think he is sleek but has no grit.

Re: Shenton Might Not Make It
Wow he's run out of opportunities obviously. He's played 3 quarters of AFL footy and he's a write off.......okay.
It didn't seem to make it down to him enough to get many touches and his thighs looked like he might have been getting worked on. But obviously he should go get a job tomorrow.

Nope. I'd love to see the guy succeed, nothing would make me happier. But there are a limited number of spots on the list, and he's right down the bottom. A blockbuster performance today would have given him a chance of staying around, but on the basis of today I can't see him playing next week and that means it'll be very hard for him to stay on the list.gringo wrote:Wow he's run out of opportunities obviously. I suppose he doesn't get the same leniency that a kid would get due to his age, which is harsh somewhat, but its a brutal industry.

Re: Shenton Might Not Make It
Jeez, the kids played 1 game and you are already calling time on his career?
it has been around this time that "Kosi" will headbutt a fence, rip a hamstring or belt someone.

Yeah saw him rubbing back of his leg early in the first quarter and looked proppy going into a contest. I wouldn't be reading to much into his performance.perfectionist wrote:I think he had a tweek in his right hammy.

I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!
Re: Shenton Might Not Make It
Think he showed a lot of poise and didn't waste a disposal.. Actually I liked what I saw very much, and I would keep him on next year if possible..
Re: Shenton Might Not Make It
i'd give shenton another year on the rookie list, use him during the mid season upgrade. give him a handfull of games then make the call

Re: Shenton Might Not Make It
Didn't see anything wrong with his game today. He now knows the kind of fitness required, and I've no doubt he'll bust his arse during the pre-season to give himself every chance of being elevated in 2015. I've seen many worse debuts over the years.

Re: Shenton Might Not Make It
Got a lot of players retiring over the next 3 years. the whole list management issue over the next 3 -5 years is going to be very interesting to watch.

Re: Shenton Might Not Make It
wow judging a guy with 1 game, well 2 1/2 quarters.... was fine imo, just needs to adjust and you normally do after a few games.
To be honest, Ferguson would be behind Shenton at this stage.

Re: Shenton Might Not Make It
They've shown about the same amount but Ferguson's a couple of inches taller so that puts him ahead, for mine. We're not exactly short of mid-size defenders.lefty wrote:wow judging a guy with 1 game, well 2 1/2 quarters.... was fine imo, just needs to adjust and you normally do after a few games.

Re: Shenton Might Not Make It
Can he get a third year on the rookie list? I know they recently changed the rules, but I am not sure of the current situation.
And Ferguson is coming up for his fourth.
