Tom Hickey vs Brodie Grundy?

Post: # 1375950Post sax »

What was the trade for Hickey?

Grundy would've been available with that pick! He is awesome!

I know, hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Grundy is already better than both our ruckmen and looks he will be a rippa! I know we also got another selection with the Hickey selection but WTF were our recruiting staff thinking. Grundy is the type of player you could build a GF winning midfield around - Hickey is a volleyballer trying to learn the game and McEvoy is a like watching a glacier move!

The trade was 13 (Jesse Lonergan), 37 (Ben Jacobs) & 57 (Kyal Horsley) for Tom Hickey, 25 (Spencer White) & 46 (Tim Membrey).
Brodie Grundy was taken with 18.

How would Hickey go walking into a successful team like Hawthorn..probably a lot better, and Grundy would probably look ordinary playing in a struggling team at St Kilda

At least he taps to advantage!

That's something both our ruckmen struggle to do!

And he's only 19!

Grundy can do it straight away, the experts here have told us Big Mac is only young, ruckman take time, in time he will be a gun, blah blah, blah, and after that I forget the rest of the excuses
for Mac not getting a tap out or not being able to jump. There is a reason they drafter Pierce ?

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

somewhere along the line we moved up one pick....maybe when adelaide lost two draft picks...anyway in the wash up...

we on-traded pick 46 to the swine for trent denis lane...presumably somehow, pick 36 ended up at freo and we got pick 25..white

Read what was said before the f***** draft.

Grundy was expected to be picked up before our first pick. Ok, so let's not trade for a ruckman because Grundy may be available? Get f***ed you lot of f***** whingers. If we had waited to pick him up and wasn't available, what then? Yes, easy in hindsight!!
Being a Stkilda fan with all these constant whingers gets on my nerves and I think it serves us right as we wouldn't be happy if regardless because we aren't Geelong or have 80,000...
I have no choice other than being a Stkilda fan but it s***s me to tears with a lot of our fans and their crys we are crap.

We had a good run, it didn't work.. Now suck it up and hopefully see a new batch of stars and enjoy the ride. Close your mouths and relax, we're towards the bottom for a while as far as I can see but we will learn from previous experiences !!

Now come on Batnoe, didn't you know that our recruiting team have secretly developed a time machine that allowed us to go forward in time to view the draft before we traded for Hickey.

PS logic doesn't work on this forum

It's very easy to have hindsight in the recruiting field, more than happy with the way Pelch and co are putting the team together.
You could spend months going on about who was picked up later than who, and which one was better
Let's see what develops with Hickey, I think he will do the club well. We need to look at the end of their carrears
IMO we need a full time ruck coach would like to get Kingy back he has done wonders with Minson at the doggies.

He was considered top 5 for a very long period, then attitude issues and a few other things caused him to drop. Was never considered to go that low at the time we traded. Mind you, it didn't help us that Emma Quayle came out and said if they were in the same draft she'd have Hickey over Grundy.

So in hindsight if we were assured of Grundy @ 13 would we have traded differently, maybe, if we could've snagged a pick d/g to get Grundy @ 18, maybe, but from what I've seen of Hickey, I wouldn't give up just yet.

Grundy does look like the 'Jack Darling' of 2013 though. I'm not shattered though like some others seem to be on here though.
