Brisbane coach Michael Voss will depart the Lions after being told on Tuesday that his contract would not be renewed at the end of 2013.
The Lions players were called to an unscheduled meeting at the club at 3.30pm Tuesday. Club bosses are understood to have informed their three-time premiership captain that he would be replaced.

The sense is that Paul Roos has done a Ross Lyon and taken up the offer and this has lead to Voss' sacking.

Foxtel Footy 360 will be doing 720s tonight. Robbo won't have any hair left by the end of the show, nor will Gerard.

bit tough on Voss honestly yes in the start he made some major stuff ups trying to top up the list and in turn if smacked him in the chops but considering the era of dominance that the Brions had come off he basically took on a team in the same position that we are in , they are now just starting to see the rewards for that and he gets the chop ... pretty sad ... i reckon Voss will get a gig as an assistant in Victoria without to much trouble maybe one of the scott brothers will find a spot for him ...

I reckon his time was well and truly up. Roos appointment is great news for footy in QLD.

i dunno i just get the whole snake oil salesman feel about roos ... i think there are better coaches out there ... honestly with no basis or reasoning behind it i just feel Roo's is a bit fake .. but thats just my opinion

I'm with you there. I've never understood the Roos worship in the footy world. When Sydney won the premiership, I heard it at the time that Lyon was the mastermind behind their success. He then came to the Saints and we saw it first hand.
Lyon is an awesome tactician, where that leaves Roos I don't know.

He seems to be highly regarded in the footy world , but I reckon if he goes to Brisbane it will be a very interesting

He's got the runs on the board as a premiership coach,so that's gotta count for something.
Never liked his opions on the saints I must admit.
Even their favourite son wasn't spared,that's footy I suppose.

Lyon is an awesome tactician, where that leaves Roos I don't know.

Roos strikes me as an excellent player manager and motivator. Lyon doesn't seem to be that good at that - I think with us the motivation was done by Riewoldt, Hayes and the leadership group.

You need both sides of it. Neeld was apparently a very good tactician but a horrible manager.

Would like Stkfc to get Voss as midfield coach next year & hope they are on the phone to him now.
Young midfield Newnes Wright Ross Markworth & new draftees would develop far quicker under his charge .

Think he can help SW on the tactical side too .

We can't afford to pay $450k for an assistant.

We are not one of those clubs with cash to throw around.

If we were to be fined $10 million clubs like Dogscray, North and us would become insolvent and would require major assistance.

Clubs like Pies, Essendon, Blues could absorb it.

The Lions were facing a player crisis with Billy Longer, Sam Docherty, Jared Polec, James Polkinghorne and Patrick Karnezis all expressing a desire to be traded. There had been strong murmurs that senior players such as Tom Rockliff had also become frustrated with Voss.

Probably wanted Roos for a while and will hire him so Melbourne cant. I now feel like Melbourne would be crazy not to at least interview Voss. If they dont and we could somehow snag him as senior assistant it would be fantastic
