Re: Saad b sample positive
How stupid is he? Why should the club support someone who is so stupid who has thrown away his career after all the time and money the club has invested in him?
Just sayin.

So was that the same energy drink, where's that been reported.plugger66 wrote:maverick wrote:So who has used what Saad used and what did they get?plugger66 wrote:
Have no idea what speed and dope and ice has to do with anything. Saad will get the same as anyone else who has used what he did because he was caught. No idea about the Essendon players but people on here who claim they know everything have said they will gt what WADA think they deserve.
The guy from the VFL. The gave him 9 months and ASADA appealed and he got 2 years.

I dont think it was the same but very similar. I have no idea how you can stick up for Saad. I feel sorry for him. Very sorry but its a open and shut case. Hopefully he somehow gets off.

I read Richard Ings say it was on the minor side, that doesn't sound like 2 years to me, don't think 2 years is a set penalty, thought it was dependent on circumstances and substances taken.
Saad will get what he should, naive, stupid or not.
I thought you knew they took the same drink.

Possibly, that'll be sorted in time. My thoughts re doping do not change whether it is one of our players or someone elses. He took a banned substance therefore should see the ban. He has no excuse at all.

Both samples tested positive, fact. Black and white. Naivety is no excuse. Lance, Tyson Gay, Sam Reilly, Ahmed Saad, Jobe Watson, Carl Lewis, RN, Thorpedo... All the same.
By the way, I have nothing to complain about in my world, it is as good as you imagine.

Re: Saad b sample positive
Two years is disgusting. He's tested positive, he deserves a penalty, but two years is in line with the worst PEDs out there. Any drug code that does not distinguish between various substances, lacks flexibility and compassion for the players is not a code the AFL should be a part of.

It is easy to make excuses, neither deserve them. They both ingested PEDs, they both deserve the bans they received.

Re: Saad b sample positive
The penalty should reflect the seriousness of the offence, if the substance he took is okay outside of game day, then he should receive a lesser punishment than a player taking completing banned substances.ljpoyz wrote:He deserves two years.
If saad gets 2 years, then Essendon deserve 25.

Agree. He's gone already in my book regardless of the length of penalty.70s sainter wrote:How stupid is he? Why should the club support someone who is so stupid who has thrown away his career after all the time and money the club has invested in him?

Wity Milne retired off almost definitely at year end we've at least rid ourselves of current scandals.
What will next year bring FFS?
Bring GT back as president FFS, assuming AD steps down.
We need a real leader of kids and how to be a footballer and person integrated as one.

Re: Saad b sample positive
He's not bad, but he's terrible if he can't play
He'll be delisted and replaced on the list, and probably in breach of his contract (if he gets banned)

Re: Saad b sample positive
The penalty should simply reflect the code. Whether that needs tinkering or not doesn't really affect Saad.
He was taking a banned substance on game day, he doesn't deserve compassion in his sentence. Otherwise you'd have a lot more players rolling the dice and claiming it was an "accident", safe in the knowledge the punishment is lenient.
When it comes to PEDs, what Essendon have taken aren't at the higher level. They're certainly not taking
EPO or blood doping, where the biggest advantage is.

Re: Saad b sample positive
Nothing to do with compassion... A shake that you are allowed to drink 6 days of the week, just not on match day is clearly not considered at the high end of PED, a player taking EPO or steroids should be considered a worse offence surely?
Re: Saad b sample positive
I read a recent article re Saad saying the punishment must fit the crime. It mentioned the average AFL career is 5 years therefor a 2 year suspension is far too much especially considering it will be career over for him. Effectivelly Saad gets a life sentence. A very valid point IMO given the substance Saad took and lack if intent, however reckless so agreed some punishment must stand.
Given my above point the comparison with the ammo player is not right given he will still play plenty of footy.
IMO suspending Saad for 10 matches is about right. What do I think will happen. When all is said and done I see the full 2 years and career over.

Re: Saad b sample positive
I wonder how the actual substance compares with the Matt Clarke VFL case? Homo rage...
I reckon saad will get a 1 year ban, there has to be some room to move when it comes to classing the offence.
