Re: If Ledger was in any doubt
Ledger and Shenton just need to keep pushing, eventually they will force their way in.
Disappointing not to get selected, but you can either get pissed off and fade away or you can put your head down and keep pushing hard, I'd go the second option. You never know what next week holds.

Good chance they will both be delisted at the end of the year… we are getting flogged and have a mountain of injuries, now's the time for these guys.lefty wrote:Ledger and Shenton just need to keep pushing, eventually they will force their way in.

It's possible but I think there is probably still time for Ledger to get a game. Shenton is more of a worry he has age against him and couldn't play any better at vfl level and running out of elevation spots you would think.

Re: If Ledger was in any doubt
Have a look at his highlights from the VFL last week:
http://www.saints.com.au/video/2013-08- ... l-round-17
kick 1: out of bounds
kick 2: missed short target, turnover
kick 3: scrubbed along ground but found a man
kick 4: shot at goal missed everything
kick 5: short kick hit target
kick 6: up and under, turnover
kick 7: short kick hit target
kick 8: out on the full
kick 9: shot at goal from 60, out on the full
kick 10: short kick hit target
kick 11: shot at goal on the run, point
kick 12: quick kick long, turnover
kick 13: quick kick long, out of bounds
kick 14: up and under, turnover
kick 15: quick kick long, contest
kick 16: long kick, hit target
kick 17: short kick to contest, out of bounds
That's just the first half, lost interest after that. 17 kicks is a big half of footy but I reckon 5 of those 17 got the desired result. I take the point that last week was windy but just at a glance it's easy to see why they might think he's just not going to make it.

Re: If Ledger was in any doubt
What have we invested in this kid? If it's a fair amount of time and money and he isn't improving then sure his papers are stamped.
Guys like Barlow were questioned because of their disposal but he seems to have turned it around and made the cut. Guys like Terry Wallace and other footballers have also had question marks on their disposal but they seem to have been worthy inside mids and played their role.
If we haven't done enough to develop Ledge and if we haven't created an individual program for him then why not? Does he have enough of a tank and can we train his brain so that his decision making shows a turn around from his apparent deficiencies? Has Dank got any vials of that pigs brain concoction left over

And if we have done everything to help him? Why do people automatically go for the negaiive that we may not have doesnt enough to help him. People need to realise that at least 50% of players from every club are just not up to standard and thats why the average length of a football player is 3 years.

Re: If Ledger was in any doubt
Maybe from the outside we don't have the complete picture of what he has been asked to do and therefore whether or not he's done it? Maybe we don't know what his attitude is like at training and in team meetings. Maybe that list 17 kicks - 10 of which were either out of bounds or a turnover have something to do with it? Just maybe.

I happily admit Ive only seen Sandy on TV this year so Im not passing judgment on him..happy to leave that to the people who are at EVERY training session and go to every team meeting. They are the only ones who can truly judge and none of them post on this Forum AFAIK
Have an opinion but dont put yourself on too much of a pedestal about youer football knowledge

Re: If Ledger was in any doubt
Agree, maybe not every training session and every game, but at least a few to gain some sort of insight.
I want him to be good, but for me he shows zero composure when he has the ball, which will get exposed at AFL level.
The crucial thing here is that after 3 years or so it hasn't improved.

Re: If Ledger was in any doubt
Maybe I’m coming at this from a different angle.
Maybe he doesn’t deserve selection based on any or all of the possible reasons suggested.
However given where the Saints are right at this moment in time in regards to development, injuries and ladder position, perhaps the club could give him a game anyways. Would it dramatically alter our chances of winning a particular game? At worst it would keep a lot of increasingly disenfranchised fans happy.
The club is not playing him and is not publicly stating the reasons why. That’s fair enough.
But just give the kid a game. And if he gets it 20 – 30 times, and he turns it over 20 – 30 times, at least the fans will be wiser and it may stop a lot of the negative chatter on social media (which is not the be all and end all, but it is not helpful to a club trying to build support).
What has the club, and Scott for that matter, got to lose?

This thread is exactly the same as the one for Tommy Walsh 2 years ago. He has sice left and still doesnt look an AFL player. Sure we could give Ledger a game but for that to happen its probably a young guy going out and if Ledger isnt going to be at the club next year and that player who doesnt play is then whats the point.

Like I said; different angle. Not expecting everyone, or even anyone, to agree.plugger66 wrote:Dr Spaceman wrote:Maybe I’m coming at this from a different angle.
