Here's the current list:

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-08-05/b ... -for-grabs

I reckon we should get Porplyzia, Betts, Didak, Chapman, Stokes, Osborne, Davey, Sylvia, Brent Harvey, Matt Thomas, Nicoski and Giansiracusa. That'd jump us a few steps closer to the holy grail of having a list completely full of small forwards.

Seriously, not many on that list who I'd bother with. Maybe Colin Sylvia? Not many tall defenders.

Saints will need to build by trade as well as by the draft there is no question about that. We won't lose our top order picks but we will get enough (hopefully) to remain competitive whilst in the rebuild. Yes Sylvia at a low cost would be good.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Matt White from Richmond would be an alright pick up. Might be getting fed up getting the sub vest every round.

Lets not waste our time with more ordinary players. I think we have enough on our list.

Think the comment is more directed at players who they have talked to their managers of eg

Luke Parker

Taylor Adams

Josh Bruce

These are uncontracted offer them good $ for preseason draft etc front end their contracts so lower clubs like Melbourne can't (Salary cap)
Players they don't agree to trade would then be delisted by clubs they will have no choice... Ie Roberton
Eventually have list with even spread of $ rather than a star above the rest which has been a problem in the past.

D.Thomas, Ellis or White the only players i'd look at in the free agency. Trading and drafting has to be our main focus this offseason.

How could Melbourne be close to the salary cap limit? They don't have any good players.

Heard SW on fox sport news make it clear that we have space in the cap and will be aggressive. I can't see any free agents really worth going after, hope we don't waste money on average players that will make little or no difference

The comment by watters that people didn't understand how bad the cap situation was is crap! There were numerous articles on it and the club continually denied it was an issue

Free Agency is a waste of time for us right now. We should only be interested in young >25 year old players who can play.
Now is not the time to be topping up our list, now is the time to build it.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

As lloyd21 posted, it won't be free agents we'll wave a cheque book at, it will be younger talented blokes that are coming out of contract that we will have to trade for.

Agree with 3rd gen saint- bypass FA this year & throw the coin at some talented kids.

am I missing something here

Darren Glass anybody?

he is a fantastic player and if you could get 2 or 3 years out of him to build a great back line around then surely that would be worth it

Do you build a great house on foundations that will be gone in a couple of years?

No, but we are buildling a footy team and in return I will give you A Hamill and who came in gave us not many games but enough to help build a great team and culture

Do you really want to throw some 20yo to full back against the giants

No we need some experience and steel

I have heard the following year's free agents will be a strong pool, I hope we take the chance on a couple of mature key defenders from a lower comp.

The Recruiters have had all year to set their strategies and identify key prospects. The difficulty is getting those that we need. I would rather a sprinking of experienced mid-20's, with a couple of outstanding young talented draftees - let's build for the future, not just hanging in there for the next year or two.

I read the article that said the same thing.

I'm tipping every player we go after will have someone like that Carlscum mob trying to counter us, they are crap as well.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

James Frawley was All Australian got pay increase . Jack Watts is out of contract will cost money to keep him from Fremantle.
