I don't love Riewoldt.
Body language is awful.
Sprays young players for not giving it to him - which creates indecision in their minds.
Lets the team down with his poor goal kicking.
Let the club with his sooky response to the Collingwood fans booing him during the GF parade.
Let the club down with his response to the interviewer after the drawn GF.
May well have asked for too much money which caused salary cap issues.
Anything else I can add?

Re: I don't love Riewoldt.
Lenny Hayes would not behave like this.
Hayes has been seen to take young players aside for a quick chat, after they have made a goof.
Discrete. Great effect. They will listen.
Not carry on like M Richo, letting the whole world know he ain't happy.
Hissy fits are unbecoming for a leader.
And missing goals?
One of my bosses did something unbelievable- called DELEGATION
If for some reason he couldn't do something, it was given to someone who had the appropriate skill to execute it.
Rooey- Mark the ball. Kick to a leading target within the 50m arc. Take credit for the resulting goal, known as a "goal assist".

I love Roo but I'm looking forward to the day that he misses a shot and the goal umpire just stands there with his arms out saying "you were supposed to kick it straight over my head"

Not sure if serious.
It's not popular on here to question any aspect of his game.
I don't like how he sprays the kids, I've always said these days we look more likely to score when he's not playing.
Automatic entry into the "you're a hater" basket.
That's ok, I'm comfortable where I sit on this discussion, champion with flaws.

So should he be forced to retire? Nothing wrong with giving guys a bit of a spray. Not sure anyone brands you as a hater for those opinions. Some of the things the first poster said were just rubbish though.
Re: I don't love Riewoldt.
Agree.
For one it was BJ that rallied everyone and talked after the drawn GF.
It's when and why he sprays.
What's the motive, he admits himself that it's not helpful and he shouldn't do it.
Does the mid that busted his backside off to get it in there, flaps his arms around and spray Roo for missing?
Works both ways.

He should not be MADE to do anything.... HE should put his hand up not to play when his body isn't even close to right.

Re: I don't love Riewoldt.
His spray to Dal was highlighted and laughed at on 7 this morning. Got the feeling they all thought it was a bit embarrassing. Not a good look. If he has any defence though, some of the delivery to him was a disgrace. Even for us.
While we're on Roo. Why is he playing? His sideways movement is non existent. Makes the kicking to him look even worse. Hate watching him struggle so much. Give him a rest.

If I was Roo I'd give them more than a spray. He expects excellence of himself and those around him..he sets the bar very high.
Absolute champion of the game and a Saints great, some of you so called supporters are a bit too precious for my liking.

Re: I don't love Riewoldt.
I loved him (well, loved him in a 'man supporting a footballer 5 years younger than him' sense), until post the drawn GF.
His comments immediately after the game about being disappointed to have to reschedule his holiday, compared with Lenny and BJs reactions, was disappointing to say the least.
Then, whilst Maxwell is rallying his troops over the following week, Riewoldt is in the papers demanding that the players get a cut of the extra dough the AFL will make out of the replay.
I found that simply appalling.
The confusion in guys like Milera now, is clear. Do they have a shot? Do they kick it to Roo? They now second guess themselves and make errors.
Look at J Brown last night. Really, really, can you imagine Roo sitting there and coaching from the bench, in an absolute selfless way like Brown was doing last night?
Honestly, I can't.
And I could be wrong, but I'd bet he makes sure he gets paid what he thinks he's worth. Geelong reckon there was a very small gap in their helcion days, from what the top paid player was on to what the bottom paid player was on.
I highly doubt that that is the case at the Saints.
Could be wrong. But I strongly doubt it.

Expects excellence????? Goal kicking confidence of a little league playerThe Fireman wrote:If I was Roo I'd give them more than a spray. He expects excellence of himself and those around him..he sets the bar very high.

Plays injured withy nothing at stake.
leads to ridiculous spots and sprays those that have a shot themselves.
Great player over the years, but rivals MIlne for selfishness.

Re: I don't love Riewoldt.
Roo aint perfect - no one is.
But weigh up all his good on one side and all his bads on the other and the goods outweigh the bads by a large margin.
Mind you - our best game all year was probably against the Dockers when he didnt play.

Re: I don't love Riewoldt.
So what type of supporter are you?
My guess:
One of the group that admired "the emperor's new clothes"
Which of my above criticisms of Riewoldt do you consider unfair?

Johnny Member, Riewoldt sure looks a lot like Goddard when he jokes about his holiday. Wierd thing to stop liking someone for in any case.

That Goddard one was slightly later on. He was interviewed prior to that and was very different.

if you think he doesn't expect excellence then you are kidding yourself. You think he likes missing goal ? His knees are shot but he carries on, you can't be a legend forever .
So have you decided to turn on Roo now or have you always thought these things of him ?
Selfish ? wow this doesn't deserve a reply.
I am a normal supporter who appreciates and respects top athletes and champions like Roo.
You are obviously not in that category.
Are you a Collingwood supporter ? Just wondering.

Re: I don't love Riewoldt.
I agree - no problem with the captain giving a spray when warranted. HOWEVER last night I was really disappointed with Roo. I was at the game and watched him closely. The sprays didn't appear to be coming because of players not adhering to team rules, selfishness, or chastisement due to lack of effort. They were coming because he wasn't getting the ball delivered to him to his liking. His body language WAS awful. In fact dare I say, he looked like he was sulking. Not good enoughplugger66 wrote:SainterK wrote:Not sure if serious.

If you're talking about the spray Dal got from Roo then it was absolutely deserved. I don't like cricket .. oh no .. I love it
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Fair enough, but who gives ROO a spray when he deserves one?PJ wrote:If you're talking about the spray Dal got from Roo then it was absolutely deserved. I don't like cricket .. oh no .. I love it
No, one set of rules for him and another for the mere mortals.
Why play when your body does not allow you to perform to the required level?
