Why does Siposs play, yet Ledger can't get a game?
Ledger continues to have high possession games at Sandringham, but fails to get a game. Yet, Siposs shows a little bit of form at Sandringham and continues to get games, even though he has been woeful in the seniors. Considering how bad we are, Ledger certainly deserves at least a game.

Maybe they see something in Siposs and want him developing alongside Riewoldt. Chalk and cheese and the same point in their career though.

Yeah, I'd like see Ledger get a game soon. Would be a shame to see him leave the club, get snapped up by another club and then flourish as a player.

There has certainly been a lot of questionable selection decisions this year.

Trying to understand SW?
Good luck with that!
Siposs didn't have a kick, had a few handballs though.
Maybe he has foot issues?

Im not sure one would be replacing the other though. I do agree though that Siposs should not have played. I reckon most of us went way to early on him and this ispart of the reason we are going to struggle for a fair few years. We are overating our youn kids at the moment. None ever get in the best and our best is always the same 5 or 6 players and only 3 of them will be around in 5 years time. Jack, Armo and Ben baring trading of course. Its going to be a long slow rebuild. We hope Melbourne dont get a priorty pick this year but I reckon in 3 years time we will be begging for one.

Siposs is close to pathetic in his attack at the pill, and the bloke with it.
Just terrible.

Re: Why does Siposs play, yet Ledger can't get a game?
A lot is made of the QUANTITY of possessions Ledger gets, but our biggest problem is the QUALITY of the possessions our players get (last night was a glaring example). I've seen 3 Sandy games this year and whilst Ledger gets his share of it, he isn't damaging with it anywhere near enough. He also appears to me to lack urgency and intensity when he (or a teammate) hasn't got the ball.
Having said that, I could quite easily mount a case for him to get a game ahead of Siposs or Saad next week !!

Re: Why does Siposs play, yet Ledger can't get a game?
Part of what Plugger said :
I cannot identify any up-and-coming "stars," such as in the early days of Rooey, Kosi, Monty, Dal. That these guys continue to be our best, we have a serious problem. Building a team around what we have, is a very up-hill task.
I think that Plugger nailed it with these words. Sipposs' intensity has been extremely disappointing. My concern is that his intensity has not changed from day 1! Let's see what Ledger has - there is no pressure to win future games.I reckon most of us went way to early on him and this is part of the reason we are going to struggle for a fair few years. We are overating our youn kids at the moment. None ever get in the best and our best is always the same 5 or 6 players and only 3 of them will be around in 5 years time.

Re: Why does Siposs play, yet Ledger can't get a game?
Siposs does not have a future in AFL football.
He completely lacks that killer instinct, that drive and ferocity that AFL players must have to be competitive.
It is pointless to keep him on the list.

He has another year or two on his contract. Its pointless to get rid of a 20 year old.
Re: Why does Siposs play, yet Ledger can't get a game?
The obvious comparison is with Goddard in the early days. In BJ's first few years he averaged 13-15 possessions, kicked a couple of goals and a lot of people were calling him a dud. At the end of his third year he'd played 61 games, and he then came out in his fourth year and had 22 touches a game, 8 marks, 3 tackles. But it took three full years and a lot of games to get him to that point.Johnny Member wrote:Siposs is close to pathetic in his attack at the pill, and the bloke with it.
So the hope at this point is that Siposs is on the same trajectory. This is the end of his third year - but he's only played 24 games. I think Watters realises that if Siposs is ever going to be a player then he just needs to get out on the park a lot, so the penny drops and he works out how to be AFL standard.
Jury still out, but it's still possible.
Re: Why does Siposs play, yet Ledger can't get a game?
put ledger and ross into that team at the expense of sipposs and saad......maybe gain an extra 35-40 possessions and maybe even a win......obviously not on the coach's horizon.......unfortunately for those of us who want to see a win......
.everybody still loves lenny....and we always will

I think its time for him to play !
Most of our side carn't hit a target to save themselves so adding another care free chipper can only be good !
At least he's hard at it .

Re: Why does Siposs play, yet Ledger can't get a game?
Ledger is not in the team because he is a horrible user of the footy. He may get 30 touches a game in the VFL but the majority of them are ineffective.

Re: Why does Siposs play, yet Ledger can't get a game?
Against Brisbane most of the Saint's players' kicking skills were appalling ( Riewoldt is an example ). We need someone who can get the ball, not contest avoiders like Saad and Sipposs. Having said that, there was a classy, but soft player at the Eagles called Don Pyke. He turned his game around and became as hard as nails and a premiership champion. Does Watters have the ability to inject toughness into our soft players

Re: Why does Siposs play, yet Ledger can't get a game?
I definitely still hold hope for Siposs.
Only 20. 2 pre-seasons.
Needs 4.
But the penny needs to drop for him that at AFL level he is just an ordinary talent - only hard work will make him a decent player.
All the hype about his kicking and talent and being the next bj etc etc was way over blown.

Re: Why does Siposs play, yet Ledger can't get a game?
I'm not sure that Leder is very good. He gets a good number of possessions but his disposal is awful. His man number 40 was the oppositions most damaging player and Ledger was useless at stopping him. I can see why he is not selected.
Do yourself a favour - look up the best 6 players in each match this year for Sandringham - now tell me how many times Ledger's name comes up - not many I tell you.
I am not the only person who thinks he is no good. The judges who select the best players agree with me and so to (it seems) the selection committee for the St Kilda FC
Just maybe numbers of disposals is not the only measure of a good player.

Re: Why does Siposs play, yet Ledger can't get a game?
Confused. The "best 22" has some players who don't get much of the pill,
and when they do, kick/handball poorly.
Others at Sandy get LOTSA the leather, and dispose poorly, and never get the call.
Get the ball magnets IN! at least it'll keep it away from the opposition!

Your proposition is incorrect. Ball magnets like Lurker don't keep it away from the opposition, they just give it straight back to them.WellardSaint wrote:Confused. The "best 22" has some players who don't get much of the pill,

Re: Why does Siposs play, yet Ledger can't get a game?
Pick Ledger for Friday. Etihad. Roof closed. No wind, unlike TBBO.
Surface a bit better than TBBO as well.
See if his disposal improves with better footing etc.
Decision-making? Improve that with Hexarelin or Cybrmyalin injections.
They're all doing it at the top end of town
