Back to your original question though baz...
I reckon we'd obviously be a lot stronger and win plenty of games, but I'm not sure that it would be a premiership threat. Would be a very old starting line-up though and we still wouldn't be getting games into our next generation of players...
Our competitiveness would be better right now.... But we'd still be on the wane...
What's been F***ed up is recruitment and development.
But hey, NO ONE AT SS would have a bar of it for 4 years.... Inarticulate when it was pointed out in 2009 by a few posters (howled down by the same who blame it now) now that's hindsight.... To actually change your view after the fact...
Anyone can do that

Howled down because you said players werent good enough because there wasnt photos. That is why. It was logical.
As a player I really admired, I have often considered the "should we have kept him" question re Goose. I think he has to date clocked up almost 50 games for the Lions in about 3.5 seasons - not a fixture in the team but still useful. Overall, while I would still like to have him around I couldn't criticise the decision at the time to let him go.
As for Luke Ball - I admired him even more (naming my son Luke may or may not have had something to do with who was wearing no.14 for the Saints at the time) and am still too traumatised to discuss...

I know you're a stickler for it when some points out the things you say

I can but I couldnt be bothered. Probably get a warning for baiting. Look it up yourself if you want to prove me wrrong and the great man right.
i do find it hard to believe BM wrote off a player he hadn't seen because of a photo. Given that you and a few others frequently bring it up, I'd just like to see that the criticism is valid.
won't bother looking it up myself as we're talking a few years back
If we still had those seven, Ross, Wright, Saunders, Murdoch, Lee, Newnes and Webster probably wouldn't have played a game and our development would be two years behind where it is.
I'd have far less sleepless nights and be very confident with the following or similar mix:
B: DEMPSTER DAWSON ROBERTON
HB: GRAM MAGUIRE GILBERT
M: GODDARD MCEVOY BALL
DALSANTO HAYES STEVEN
HF: ARMITAGE RIEWOLDT MONTAGNA
F: MILNE LYNCH FISHER
I/C: KOSI, SIMPKIN, SCHNEIDER, SAAD, GWILT,
CLARKE.R, JONES, MILERA, MAISTER,
BLAKE, STANLEY, RAY, GEARY, LEE
NEWNES

Ball went long ago. If BJ plays this year what actually happens apart from us having to pay about 800k a year for another 3 years which may stuff up our fight back up the ladder.
Dawson would possibly be the most important being a 195 defender.... I never rated him as a saint or a player for some reason, even though he played some good footy at StK.
The rest I considered Saints to the core.... All seemed anguished by their decision to leave, but felt it necessary to do so??
