I'm still angry.
I know he is probably a good kid.
However how many meetings must he have been in that told him to check this stuff out.
We have meetings right?
Heck, they've probably had even more meetings in light of the Dons saga.
With the off field issues, combined with the on field performance, we'll be lucky to hit 20K members next year.

We all feel the pain K.

Re: Saints in the paper again!
Obviously we don't know the whole story yet, but - if Saad tested positive for something which was in a product he obtained through a sponsorship deal - does the St Kilda management have a responsibility here?
One senses that the (allegedly) very well-remunerated club management isn't exactly on top of things at the moment.
Issues around "dietary supplements", "protein powders" and the like have been causing confern around the sports sector for some time now. If I were running a professional sporting club, I would demand full disclosure from all players about any supplements they are taking (and any drugs, licit or illicit). Full disclosure would be a contract condition so that I would have the power to treat any non-disclosure as a breach of contract. And I would fully investigate anything disclosed to me.
In my book, it's called effectivr management, and it's the sort of thing that would always have a massively greater priority than pointless planning meetings with butchers paper, long lunches with sponsors, etc.
The devil is always in the detail and a good manager - one who is truly worth a salary of many hundreds of $k - is 100% sure that they have processes in place to manage the detail.
So, in short, is this another symptom of a wider problem at our club?

I cant believe how quickly his name was leaked.
It took Jobe to confess before anyone knew who had taken supplements at Essendon which was months and less than 24hrs for Saad's name to be revealed.

Maybe it was deliberately leaked so that the media didn't spend time speculating who was involved.ROLS-LEE wrote:I cant believe how quickly his name was leaked.

Tef, I dont think it is taking the heat off the bombers. I think the general public realise that this is nothing like the Essendon saga.Teflon wrote:Just p!ssed off we are taking some heat of Bombers!!

Unfortunately the precedent is there so Saad will pay a big price.
However, it certainly doesnt let Essendon off the hook. Did you see Hird this morning, he looks a broken man.

#standbyhird is the strangest slogan I've ever seen for a besieged football club.

Re: Saints in the paper again!
Saad as an afl multicultural ambassador will be ok !
The last thing the afl would want is to be seen picking on the minorities .
All Saad has to do is give an exculsive interview to one of the networks , have a good cry , plead ignorance , mention ramadan and his beliefs !
The Afl will then give him a slap on the wrist penalty .

Well on that point you would have to say that both St Kilda AND the AFL are Saady's employer and therefore each must share any responsibility and fallout from his discretion.mr six o'clock wrote:Saad as an afl multicultural ambassador will be ok !

However the AFL and even AFL players Association also brief players on drugs and there responsibilities.
Second year in the AFL = ample time to absorb information.
So where was Saad's common sense?
Unfortunately players and people make mistakes, and bad assumptions and/or put trust in the wrong people. With drugs in sport carelessness is not a defence.

Re: Saints in the paper again!
I heard the club was contacted about the result, and they called him in.
He was baffled.
They asked him if he'd taken anything, and went through his routine.
He was told what he had for breakfast, did this, did that, drank a shake, did this, did that...
They startled and jumped in when he mentioned the shake, and basically put their head in their hands at how he could be so stupid. Then went back to the AFL with the story.

Re: Saints in the paper again!
The drink Saady had is only not allowed on match day. You can have it during the week for training. DMAA is banned but was massive the last 2 years in the gym industry pre-workout drinks such as Jack3d and Mesamorph. It gives you a slight energy boost, eg instead of doing 6-7 reps you can do 7-8. Instead of doing 8 chin ups you can get out 9 maybe 10. But after you take it every day for two weeks your body gets used to it and the effect is gone, you then have to use more and more until there is no point taking the supplement or you stop taking it for a month and take something else and then take it again after a break for a boost for a couple weeks before your body gets used to it again. People at my gym take the double recommended dose and are still yawning because it doesn't do anything anymore.

Re: Saints in the paper again!
Every one is jumping at conclusions. He might have got the shakes off the company that the club said was an okay product. They might have told him it was alright but they changed the formula. The company might have claimed it was ASADA compliant etc. Everyone assumes he was a moron but maybe he was poorly lead or advised. We have to let it play out to find out now. We want answers quickly these days but government bodies are like melting ice.
