3 rd pick now virtually guaranteed

Post: # 1367064Post saintsRrising »

With the Dogs winning against WCE and going to 8 more points than us on the ladder, it is now virtually guaranteed that we will finish third last.

While I do not like finishing that low, it does mean that we get 3 rd pick, and the first 3 picks look to be the quality ones.

Unless the AFL gives Melbourne another priority pick... that being the case, we drop down to 4.

If they do...I would imagine it would be an extra pick at the end of round 1.

Besides our win/loss is not much different to the Dees!!

The Dees % is shocking. So they would need 2 more wins than us = unlikely.

Dees run home incl: GWS, GC and Doggies....they're a chance to finish higher!

Not sure what variety of Munchhausen's I've got...but I'm hoping we come 2nd last, now

The Dees don't deserve another pick. But if they get one, lets hope they waste it again.

Essendon lose all points. Finish last and the afl decides they can draft. We get pick four.

Just because the dons finish last in your scenario does not mean that they get first pick in the draft. If they are allowed any picks at all then it would HAVE to go on their finishing position before any points are stripped (which I think is unlikely - just a great big fine and maybe loss of draft picks for a couple of years would be my opinion fwiw).

These are good points . the afl know how damaging loss of draft picks are .

Scharenberg looks such a nice size he could be playing in his first season IMO. I saw him last year and he was already a gun. He is amazingly talented and strong - thought he was 18 last year and ready to be drafted.

And for some balance

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl ... 6346259885

Couple of years old but big wraps on Aish.

A fair bit smaller than Scharenberg but sounds like a player.

The good thing is that with #3 assured we can get Boyd (little chance) Scharenberg (some chance), or Aish (some chance).

If these are top three we get one (if Pelican is looking at it this way)

Top 3 from what is being said looks to be a
Much better chance of gaining a future star than top 4.

And our list at present seems bereft of future stars.

At present Steven is the only one looking like he will be a star, and he is arguably after this season just about there.

His ability to erge from packs or the hurly burtly and them break away has been outstanding.

We need to make the first pick a champion because every other pick is worse than last years. I think the good Doctor pointed that out previously. if we finished last the GF winner get evey pick better than us apart from our first pick.

Don't get me wrong Aish would do me too but Scharenberg is a little more ready to go in his first season. Aish will probably even have a bit more scope to be an extra special player but we need our to go from now.

If anything we don't need a ready to go player... we need to draft the kids that will be the best in 4-5 years time.

2014 will be another rebuilding year & most likely, another top 3 pick. Just remember that in 2001 Roo played only a handful of games & in 2002 Bally didn't play at all.

If we get Aish at 3 from all reports we will have an absolute Rolls Royce on the books & if he doesn't play until he's ready then I'm fine with it.

Why.we are still on the way down. One young player wont help. get the best player we can for 3 years time. Easier said than done.

We didn't come good until the last 5 or so games of 2003. Won 4 in a row by over ten goals and lost to Geelong at Kardinia park in the last game.

Then came 2004.

We should pick the best player available.

Cant wait to see the pinpoint passed of Aish onto a rampaging Wight's chest who arc around beats his opponent takes two bounces and slots from 50 (in about 2015-2016) :D

We need to stay competitive to attract sponsors and keep the gate ticking over. Aish playing at a s*** club on the bottom of the ladder out at sandy might be enough to head home. Scarenberg would play 10 games in his first year and has the type of big solid body that will turn into man very quickly. Aish is wispy and quick but could end up better long term- he has been compared to Bryce Squibbs so that might have done him in for me. yes I am petty.
