Game thread v Port
I'll start one early as there is no discussion thread about the game.
I don't think TC should be sub, start him in the guts and by all means sub him off when he's tired.
Simpkin owes the team one IMO, in the sense of letting them down with his suspension when he'd just got back in the side....still physical but with no silly stuff.
Newnes to go back in Gears absence, to play on Neale or to they give that job to Jimmy W?
Is this rain keeping any of you away? They do say it will clear by tonight, I'm hoping for a big crowd because it's not a Sunday twilight for a change.

Who do we need to shut down if we are going to win? Don't know much about Port, and who has been playing well. I keep hearing young Wingard is going well.

Re: Game thread v Port
With Simpkin in Stanley needs to go forward with Lee and Roo.
Macca to drop back when needed.
TDL should start as sub.
The rain will keep plenty away as Saints fans are likely to ditch this game due to the wet but more significantly the cold!
But I'll be there. Next two weeks are In Geelong then Brisbane so no live games for a few weeks for most fans.
Anyway, a loss tonight means Carlton are out of the eight!

Stanley will need to stay back as they have a heap of tall forwards. He might be a good match up for Westhoff. Shultz on Simpkin should be a good match up.

We're pretty fortunate that Cornes is out as he is the biggest ball winner... Ebert, Boak, monfries, wines, gray.. all getting plenty of footy.8856brother wrote:Who do we need to shut down if we are going to win? Don't know much about Port, and who has been playing well. Stanley was a liability in defence last week. He's a natural forward not defender. Experiment failed.gringo wrote:I have my kids footy finals in the morning but am tossing up wether to take him or not.saintspremiers wrote:With Simpkin in Stanley needs to go forward with Lee and Roo.

We should try to beat em in a shootout. That is our best chance IMO. No chance if we try to grind out a win because we have been unable to run games out all season, while Port have been quite the opposite.

Re: Game thread v Port
Cornes is only the biggest ball winner because he plays the loose man sweeping out of defence with no one on him. Whoever plays that role for Port this week will end up with similar stats. I think one of the reasons our record has been so poor against Port is that we have never paid the Cornes brothers enough respect.dragit wrote:We're pretty fortunate that Cornes is out as he is the biggest ball winner... Lenny is being blocked and grabbed at the bounces
When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

Not good at home either. Brian Taylor commentary is absolutely woeful. Worst commentator I have ever heard. A complete joke.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

prior to the season I mentioned I thought our list and our performance would match the dogs of 2012

I know we are in development mode, but 100% effort is a non-negotiable, and the effort certainly wasnt there in the first 5 minutes, and even now they look lethargic.
I'm thoroughly pissed off about this.

Reality check.
Good hungry side on the rise against a combination of some guys who are past it some kids and some who are just no good.
