Like Bring back Mad Dog said, we need all talented senior players to stick around to help these young guys develop. We already have pick 4 and 22 locked in and he club should back itself to secure some decent midfield talent with those picks. Watters has stated that we are short of talented midfielders. Why then would he get rid of one who's got 3 years of football left in him? As much as Dal Santo's form has been disappointing this year, he still gets the hardest tag every week, and in a team with insufficient midfielders the load is harder to carry.

Has anyone heard if Dal is a good mentor. Does he work with the younger guys to help them improve? If he doesn't then SW probably takes that into consideration when he thinks about the future of players like Dal. Mad if he doesn't.

Not a good look at all if Ball, BJ and now Dal no longer at the Saints.

Its all about balance and while Dal may not be as rugged as some would like he is class. If the coaching staff are happy with his efforts around training and the youngsters he must be kept UNLESS he wants to go for money (which is fair enough too!). He has paid his dues at St.Kilda and deserves to be loyally supported. I just wish we had kept Ball, Goddard and Lyons oh and Stewart too!

I reckon the club have been behind the instigation of this article and are trying to quickly arrive at the point with Dal where they can say to him, look you aren't as good as you once were or you aren't as good as you think you are anymore so buy-in or say good by to your AFL career earlier than you should and the nice pay packets it can still bring you.
Interesting post considering a poster who spends his life on here tried to convince me recently that Dal went both ways....

If Dal hadn't recently got married i'd have been unsure what he was really getting at, maybe he's a Supernaut fan,,,,,

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

I'm not a huge fan of trading players just because they are veterans.

The question is are we getting good value from him? Value that would outweigh whatever potential pick we could get?

A player of his skill, experience and calibre should be playing to the standard expected of him, demonstrating his leadership both onand off the field.
Is he doing that?

I haven't seen a lot of games this season but te consistent feedback is that he is underperforming in all areas.

Guys like Hayes and Riewolt are and have. Monty too.

Goddard wasnt and wasnt worth his asking price.

I would at least field offers

Goddard was obviously worth it to Essendon??

They have a better list ...and.. they have engaged in questionable practices that are under investigation, the exact benefits, whilst unknown, even an idiot would assume they wouldn't have done it just for the sake of it.

WTF has that got to do with the point of the question? I didn't ask why they were good??

Someone posted Goddard wasn't worth his asking price??

For us.... I asked why was he not worth the money for us but a better team thinks he is? And if we cannot afford him, how can a better list??

Same with Ball
A slow, hopeless overpaid inside mid who couldn't get a run in our first midfield.... Goes to a better team, with better players and can get a gig? And finish top 5 in their midfield

Never had reasonable answers to those obvious questions??

I won't argue RE Ball because I agree

With Goddard...simple. He wasn't playing well enough and couldnb't/wouldn't improve over in that setting over a year.

He's playing better now. Still don't think he's playing well enough to justify his reported pay though... good player, not one of the very elite though

On Goddard,

Many would disagree ...... Actually most non-stk supporters strangely enough.....

Essendon obviously are in a better position to judge, and they seem to being going OK.... Reckon they are not disappointed with their investment...

At least we got something for BJ though

I would argue (and it's opinion only) that they're happy becaise they are winning

he is close to if not the highest paid player at the club... possibly earning more than Jobe

if they were under performing I reckon they wouldn't be so happy with his output

we were happy with Mini in 2010 despite the fact that he was AWFUL (well most of us at least) coz we were winning... his output didnt change in 2011

Who was happy with Mini? Ross??

In 2009 yes, in 2010 his position was questioned by heaps....

On Essendon
perhaps BJ is one of the reasons they are winning.... With Jobe missing six, I reckon BJ or Carlisle will win the B&F.... Statistically BJ is having a great year...

Ask any Essendon supporter if they are happy with his contract? We obviously have sour grapes, so (like Ball) the views on here can be discounted...

Maybe ur right

On Mini... in 2010 I was one big skeptic RE Mini... gotta say that I felt it was a view shared by very few

ppl just kept saying he did his job, and talking about his courage and heart. very frustrating

In your rigid sophistoric view maybe.

Lance or James??

There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. JB I always enjoy your use of the english language but you have excelled yourself with this one. I'd never come across the word 'sophistoric' so I Googled the word and apparently it is a new word and the meaning is the combination of the words sophisticated and historical.

sophisticated [səˈfɪstɪˌkeɪtɪd]
adj
1. pretentiously or superficially wise

his·tor·i·cal (h-stôr-kl, -str-)
adj.
1. Of or relating to hindsight.
2. Based on or concerned with events in history.

Or is it simply a misspelled sophistic - meaning taking on the nature of a complex and well formed but generally fallacious argument.

Either would make sense.

Nup! Google says it is a new word and will be officially entered into the Oxford English and Macquarie dictionaries for their next update.

It's clear the club are shopping him and anyone else with currency in that older bracket. Interesting thing will be how long they sign him up for if they don't get their asking price. If he's worth pick 20 and below then surely you'd expect 2-3 years out of him..?! Would be surprised if we extend him for 2 most likely 1
