Re: Stanley
For now I think he needs to go back to defence. This is the first year where he's been able to play regular footy and he'll be learning plenty even if he's not dominating games, He made a pretty good start in defence and just got caught out playing against genuine gun forwards rather than resting rucks/kids.
Since Watters is hell-bent on playing two specialist ruckmen in McEvoy and Hickey, there is no room for Stanley to ruck and he's not valuable enough solely as a forward. We are desperate for height in defence, so for now he needs to play there.
I think Stanley's best position is easily in the ruck but we've invested too many resources in other rucks while ignoring other areas to play him there. Long term they'll be hoping he can be a more athletic version of David Hale.

Ben said he does 110 while Rhys does 130Old Mate wrote:Ha ha nice creepy. For interests sake what do they bench?
Re: Stanley
I'm surprised. I thought Big Ben would be able to bench more than that. Considering they're both over 100kg, I would've thought 110 kg would be easily covered.
Fraser gehrigs club record of 175kg will take some beating freak.

Re: Stanley
He has got to be a defender or a 199cm utility. He does not have enough tricks to play forward, or at least close to goal. I think he should be persisted with down back IMO it will be a success once he learns how to play the role. I can see him playing the Fisher role in the future.

Re: Stanley
Right here right now we have 3 ruckmen of similar age. None of whom will accept being a back-up or a VFL player.
Which means if Stanley cant be turned into something else (which I have grave doubts) something will have to give in the next 2 years.

Re: Stanley
His first 3 efforts in defense against the blues resulted in 3 easy goals to his opponents.
2 words sum up his attitude and his attack on the footy and on getting some physical contact on his opponent; soft and pathetic
Stanley reminds me of some kids in U12's who are asked to play in the backline and they say; "I don't like the backline!!"

From all reports he's still looking fit. Perhaps we can get him back. Love the Gtrainsavatage wrote:I'm surprised. I thought Big Ben would be able to bench more than that. Considering they're both over 100kg, I would've thought 110 kg would be easily covered.

Huh that's why we want Brown we need a key back. he reminds me of a ruck forward who is asked to play as a KPB.

Re: Stanley
Does not read the game or understand the game. His body positioning is very poor. This is something you cannot teach.

Re: Stanley
Perhaps our other ruckmen could play in defense and do a better job or would Stanley do better than the other 2 in the ruck? Get off his case, maybe he should be played in the ruck, out of the 3 of them he'd have to be the all rounder and debatable the better ruckCon Gorozidis wrote:Agree with most things you said - but why is it so 'obvious' that Stanley is a long term fwd?BigMart wrote:
Both obviously are long term forwards.... But time at HB would have helped their education, whilst utilising their attributes.
What is that based on?
Goals kicked in VFL? Goals kicked at SANFL? Goals kicked at AFL?
Siposs has at least kicked a truckload of goals as a kid - but sheesh massive step up being a a fwd in the AFL. I dont think too many defenders would be worried about manning up on Siposs with all due respect at the moment...
Im starting to think Stanley is a ruckman or nothing.

He needs freedom to run - pigeon holing him down back as a KPP does not play to his strengths

Exactly....Devilhead wrote:He needs freedom to run - pigeon holing him down back as a KPP does not play to his strengths
If played in the seniors play him wing, high half forward, forward...
As a back he is struggling bigtime and has lost the confidence he was showing as a defender.
In this game our small forwards are ineffective. Past Blues games they have dominated. So give Stanley a run forward in the second alf.

Re: Stanley
Rhys appears to be a little brittle in confidence as it doesn't take much to see him drop his head. He is the type of player who needs to be left in one position to gain confidence not thrown around like SW has done with him. IMO for this year he should be left in defense ...

Re: Stanley
His main problem is that he is no good on the backline. I'm not sure how many goals he has to give away for the coach to realise this. The only thing I can say is that we have nothing much to replace him, certainly no-one of any size. If we are going to recruit players from other clubs in the next three years, all of them have to be capable of playing down back and have height. No easy feat.
Re: Stanley
No presence.
Doesnt matter how fast he is he cant play on a wing or through the midfield. His ball finding abilities are sub standard.
He lacks any phyisicality/presence to be a ruck or KP

Re: Stanley
He may be quick.
Would blow up in minutes in the midfield.... He has absolutely no tank, worse than Siposs

Re: Stanley
Trade bait... if we're lucky. Got lots of athletic attributes... but just no understanding of how to use them in a game of football. If anything he appears to have gone backwards since last year.
Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...
