Re: Stanley
He's never really played in the ruck.... As a #1
He is a rare commodity in that he has potential to be a ruck/fwd which allows a team to play 2 Ruckman. Which is advantage.
You won't have a KPP playing in the ruck and getting smashed or a lumbering Ruckman playing fwd and being a liability...
The McEvoy/Stanley combination would be my future

Re: Stanley
Big Mart!
You need to give up on the Stanley as a big gun blonde fwd fantasy.
Just a quick comparison - Rhys has 21 career goals.
Jeremey Cameron is only 20 and already has 63.
NicNat is primarily a ruckman and has 61 already.
I just cant see someone flicking a switch on Rhys as a goal kicker and fwd.
Id really like to see Rhys given extended time in the ruck. I reckon he is a really good modern ruckman. He was drafted after playing as a Ruck at senior SANFL level at 17!
How we juggle our 3 young ruckmen I have no idea!
Any suggestions anyone?

Can he lose the ruck duel, then run back in defence and take marks like our current no#1 ruckmenCon Gorozidis wrote:Big Mart!

Ben wins about 40% he contests but dont let that stop you just saying he loses the ruck duel. Obviously you dont rate our coach he keeps selecting him every single week and will baring injury for the rest of this year and into the future.
Re: Stanley
I don't care what colour his hair is.... What I do want is a back up Ruckman/fwd who can support both Ben and Spencer White.
He's better than Hickey.... Who I've never seen take a mark fwd, or trouble the scorers

Impossible to compare them. Nick nat was played from day one and is miles ahead of Rhys in development, is a freak talent and has been given licence to attack. Cameron is again being played from day one as a key forward. Rhys has been given no continuity, has been expected to play roles that don't suit him and was never given any extended time anywhere long enough to adjust.
He should be modelled on Tippett- similar size and physique and could be a very handy ruck forward type. Leigh Brown type around the ground ruck forwards will get even handier with limited rotations.

Re: Stanley
I think everyone needs to relax on this kid, he's still only 22 after all.....give him a few more seasons & games, before we start putting nails in the coffin.
His attributes are incredible, but taller players tend to take longer to find themselves @ the top level, he's still gowing into his frame.
I still believe this kid's going to be something great.

Re: Stanley
Not writing the kid off at all.
He would have approached this season like he has the last few; wondering when his hamstring was going to twang. Hopefully those issues are in the past and that he can mentally accept they are in the past. If that's the case then he can turn his attention to trying to impose his impressively athletic frame in a more intimidating manner.
He may still fail of course, but let's not give up on him just yet.

Ben being our no1 ruckmen and ranking 28 overall for hitouts is not good. But wait he is young and will improve right.
That Tom Nicholls is doing ok for a 21year old.

Its amazing i thought you said he didnt win hit outs. Im still going with 40% of hit outs. What i did notice though of interest but of course it wont matter to you is WB are crap, North have won 6 out of 14, melbourne are crapier and Warnock is in the seconds. And Brisbane and Adelaide arent much good either. I now understand why it is so important to have a good tap ruckman. What about we trade Ben for Warnock. At least sandy will then have a good tap ruckman who will have a fantastic average. Vital to be a top side as shown by the first 7 on your list.

Re: Stanley
I don't rate rucks but a decent one can make the difference, Jolly made a huge difference to Collingwood and Sydney have two guys that can hold down the ruck and be competitive. Mc Evoy has to get better no doubt but he probably does still have time. Minson was a massive spud for years.

Re: Stanley
Rhys in my opinion needs to take a big hit during a game and have the bloke who hits him come off second best ... to me he doesnt quiet believe he has the atributes to be dominant ... he doesnt have the strut that a kid his size would normally have in the AFL , in my opinion he needs some more self belief and develop a bit more agro ...at the moment i think he is still just thankful to get a game where as at this stage he should be expecting a game every week and looking at making an impact ...

In a recent interview Steven said Stanley is the strongest guy at the club, and we know he's quick and agile. His skills are okay although his awareness is questionable. He certainly has enough attributes to be a dominant tall of the game. Agree he lacks confidence.

Yup also in the interview with Ben McEvoy, he himself said that Rhy benches 20kgs more than him. (better yet it was my question but thats for another day )Old Mate wrote:In a recent interview Steven said Stanley is the strongest guy at the club, and we know he's quick and agile. Well it does count yes cos he is THE coach.kimberly saint wrote:If it counts for much watters was on WA radio other day said they hoped he would be a forward in years to come and was plugging a hole down back at present
But the word 'hope' never fills me with confidence.
I think we have 3 ruckmen who are the same age - so are spending the years 'hoping' that Rhys is a forward.
I believe we are best facing the fact now that we have 3 Ruckmen of the same age rather than 'hoping' something else is true.
Lets face the facts and get a strategy to deal with it. Just 'hoping' something else just springs out of nowhere is rubbish.
They can close their eyes and 'hope' he becomes a fwd all day and night - but it wont make it come true.

He will be fine and this crappy chat about him not making it is similar to the Dogs fans chatter about Jones and Roughead not making it.
All three will be good players and have played less than 50 games.
