Milney next week !!
I think everyone now knows that the AFL told St Kilda to stand Milney down until after "Women's Round". Well, women's round has come and gone and now the AFL want to hold off Milney's return for another week. The ONLY reason I can think of for this decision/thinking is that if Milney was to return next week fingers can/will be pointed at the AFL regarding their tokenism towards women's round !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Re: Milney next week !!
So what reason is there NOT to play him this week?
He's had a two week spell. Womens round is over.
What would be different about future rounds?
Or in other words if we don't play him this week, then effectively they are saying he won't play until the case is dismissed.
That could be career ending for a man who protests his innocence, and should be entitled to that presumption.
And who exactly is making the decisions?
Our Board, or the AFL?
(Meanwhile self confessed drug cheats play on with the AFL's blessing).

Fair point.
But then there is no excuse to NOT play him the following week (assuming a not guilty plea).

from absolutely no legal knowledge- But given any opportunity I would have thought Milney would be best to present himself if the situation requires it- and/or follow best legal practice in this issue
and to do that and also fly to Perth would be extremely difficult...
Do what's best for you and your family Milney and in extension the the Club

The reason for him not to play is out of respect to the woman who - for nine years - has been waiting for him to be brought to account. He's been charged with rape for god's sake - not with drink-driving.

And if he's found not guilty? The world doesn't stop because someone makes an allegation against you that occurred 9 years ago.
The mention date will purely be to set a Committal date. Nothing interesting will happen there.

It should all have been tried 9 years ago. But yes, the world stops for some people. 9 years is a long time to wait to see justice done. Time for Milney to take responsibility, whether he's cleared or not.

Wasn't Milne's fault it wasn't tried 9 years ago. What's he taking responsibility for if he's cleared?

... f****** joke LOL.
Can't believe those that have so easily turned against our champ.
Seems everyone's too s*** scared of our 'image' these days, they call for the chopping block as soon as there's a bad news story.
This is Stephen Milne we're talking about.
A 9 year old bungled case that's re-surfaced.
You'd have thought in those 9 years since the allegation that he would have maybe earned our respect & support a little? Our trust.
I don't know exactly what went down in '04. Only Milney, Joey & the girls know that - but quite obviously it wasn't a clear cut case of a bloke going out & raping a girl. Or all this would have been done 9 years ago. Milney locked up. It's a messy, messy incident involving footy players & girls who like to party with footy players. Not the first of It's kind.
It doesn't make whatever happened to this girl right or OK. That's not at all what I'm saying.
But what I do know is for the past decade Stephen Milne has been a stand up guy, a class act & the absolute heart & soul of our footy club. Him, Lenny & Roo. Legends.
He's earned my trust. And I have no problem publicly backing a legend of our club - as I have done the past decade. This case being re-hashed. Doesn't change anything for me in that regard.
Just look at the respect & backing the players give him. What they have to say about Stephen Milne.
I can't help but feel, as Saints supporters, we should try to follow suit just a little..

Yeah see, the thing is… if he is found guilty, then that past decade he has been a legend at the club is completely clouded… if he'd gone to jail nine years ago then his career most probably would have ended there.Kiedis wrote:But what I do know is for the past decade Stephen Milne has been a stand up guy, a class act & the absolute heart & soul of our footy club. It's only footy, he doesn't need to be playing right now, the club doesn't need the circus of a player going through a rape trial playing games.
Keep supporting him for sure, he certainly should be given the presumption of innocence, but standing down from playing football for awhile might be the best thing for all concerned.

Re: Milney next week !!
Dragit - the rape trial won't be for another 12 months at least. All this stuff about let's stand him down and wait and see. You're effectively ended a blokes career - under a cloud. If he is committed to trial, that alone probably won't happen until September. What if the case is dismissed at Committal? Milney has virtually had to end his career and the matter would be thrown out before the word trial is mentioned! I'm fully aware that this is a very serious matter. Probably doesn't get too much more serious. However the allegations are from 9 years ago. Nothing has changed in that time.dragit wrote:Yeah see, the thing is… if he is found guilty, then that past decade he has been a legend at the club is completely clouded… if he'd gone to jail nine years ago then his career most probably would have ended there.Kiedis wrote:But what I do know is for the past decade Stephen Milne has been a stand up guy, a class act & the absolute heart & soul of our footy club. The AFL and the Saints are being very wishy washy I reckon. Either say, 'that's it, your career is over.' Then explain their hypocrisy, OR, allow him to play the year out and see what happens at the Committal. If he is committed to trial at the end of the season, then quite possibly he needs to concentrate on that and retire. But let him retire on his terms.
I am completely over this 'respect against women' crap they go on about. How about 'respect against EVERYONE!' Why are women now so precious? Why are blokes allowed to keep playing when they have very serious assault charges hanging over their head? Why is Heath Scotland suspended for a paltry 2 weeks after king hitting a bloke in a pub brawl and inflicting serious injury? Let's be honest, because in the blokey world of AFL that's almost considered part of a tough footballers make-up. They play on the edge and sometimes it tips over into the real world and we all appear to accept that. Rape is an abhorrent crime, but at the moment it is just an allegation. If they had a stack of evidence he would have been charged 9 years ago AND he would have most likely been remanded into custody. I can't help but feel that Milne has been singled out because the AFL want to be seen to being all touchy feely. The sooner we get over this 'respecting women' campaign and start a 'respecting a man, woman, and child' campaign the better off all of us will be.

There are a lot of players with allot of skeletons in there closets !
The Afl could ask there new coach of the team to play Ireland about what he got up to in that park in adelaide in the 90s !

Exactly Mr six O'clock. And that coach is now treated as some sort of Statesman of the game???? And I do believe that money changed hands to make the whole thing go away. That particular allegation was 1000 times worse than the one that is being levelled at Milne.

Unfortunately for Milney, this case is very political and it is now also about police corruption. He'll probably get off but it's going to drag out a bit.

What's the best thing for the club? Sponsorship considerations etc? Not just what Milney wants to do.
As sn aside, I personally think Milnes career is finished anyway, he's had one good game in 10 so far this year, will the circus that goes with him playing out the season be worth it? You guys obviously think it is... There's a bit more to it than "Milney's a legend, let him play, stuff everyone who doesn't like it"
