MCG ? You can stick that where the sun don't shine.
We've just got home from a 5 hour round trip to do laps of the MCG and then come home.Without getting out of the car.
Got on the westgate bridge at 3.10pm thinking we were good for time only to see an absolute disaster of traffic around swan st/ punt rd.
Got to half time and we gave up looking for a park. Gate 5 where we normally go was closed. 1.10min to get to Gate 7 to find them closing that.
How many centuries does football have to be played before they can get parking and traffic right ?
I will not go here for a home and away game again.

No worries. I'm from the country so should i get a MYKI which doesn't activate for 24 hours so i can catch the train ?
Never mind. It's Etihad for me or I have better things to do.

If you get a return train from geelong (i take it you are from drysdale bellarine?)… you can ride on the trams and met trains for free…howlinwolf wrote:No worries. I'm from the country so should i get a MYKI which doesn't activate for 24 hours so i can catch the train ?

You didn't miss much. Probably a good thing. At least you had a heater for 5 hours.

You're kidding aren't you. Why would u even attempt it ? Park your car at a bloody train station and catch the train to flinders st and walk ( very pleasant) or catch the no. 70 tram from flinders ( very easy) or the train to Richmond and walk (easy)

There is a car park opposite AAMI park which was not full.
Next time you go to the MCG go to Swan St and park there.

When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss

We didn't get in until half time.
Car park attendant reckons they were full, didn't look it.
I did my best to zip over after commitments earlier, what a disaster.

Re: MCG ? You can stick that where the sun don't shine.
I park on Victoria parade East Melbourne always a park their and walk down past the Hilton takes about 5 minutes to walk and at the end of the game I'm not stuck In the mcg car park. But that would be to easy wouldn't it?? At Etihad very hard to find a park that I don't have to pay 15 dollars for. So in my opinion you clearly have no used your common sense.

Why are sainters bagging out sainters who made an effort?

You can buy a myki from any Metro station and Myki card vending machines. They work the moment they give to you. I don't know were you get 24 hours from...howlinwolf wrote:No worries. I'm from the country so should i get a MYKI which doesn't activate for 24 hours so i can catch the train ?

Re: MCG ? You can stick that where the sun don't shine.
I caught the train and got there in about 15 minutes and home in about 10 on an express. Awesome- although I was lucky only one kid came because I lost a MYKI and can't be stuffed replacing it. Etihad you can at least park at if you need to.
I caught the bus down punt road the week before and missed a quarter because I only allowed 1 hour to get there. They had three busses in convoy as you do- the 2 o c'lock bus came at 3.30. What a public transport system.
Weird the car park was closed because 5 mins before kick off cars were still coming right up near the main steps at the entrance gates and was hardly anyone there?

Re: MCG ? You can stick that where the sun don't shine.
I raced from a netball tournament in Frankston and thought I had timed my run to perfection for the starting time. Instead I was confronted with the car park closed
I got inside at the 20min mark of 2nd quarter. Just in time to watch our team meekly succumb to a good ordinary team and then sit out in the rain. Enjoyed the 2km walk back to the car in the rain also after one of the most insipid efforts we have displayed in years. Thanks sainters for a great day

Simple solution. Buy a house or apartment near the city and walk.

Despite how we are doing I would give my right nut to be able to go to a game right about now. Everybody knows you park and train it to the G. Driving there is fraught with fail and frustration.

Re: MCG ? You can stick that where the sun don't shine.
Your the lucky one. Unluckily my train arrived on time and got there for the bounce. Should have left 30 seconds after the bounce.
Re: MCG ? You can stick that where the sun don't shine.
Wilson's Book a Bay is a great deal. $8.50 to park in the city or Eureka. Walk takes about 15 mins. Better than MCG car park where you have to wait to get out which takes more than 15 mins. Will never park in the MCG again!
