Someone made an interesting comment that if Watson was riding in the Tour de France and fessed up the way he did - he wouldn't be allowed to ride in the upcoming race. So why is he playing tonight?.
Never thought cycling would ever handle a drug issue better than the AFL

Fair point.

Patrick Smith in an article in todays Australian 'Doging the buck is the newest skill in football' highlight's the double standard between the the Milne case and what is happening at Essendon (or the lack ofwhat is happening). Long article so wont transcribe it all....... someone might do a link, but here is a few points he makes about Milne and Watson/Hird.
"We move on. Consider the case of Stephen Milne. He is granted leave of absence by St Kilda, a move which was enthuastically encouraged by the AFL.
Milne is out indefinitely. Forced to watch from the stands because he has been charged with four counts of rape. He has been stood down despite the presumption of innocence, everybody's fundamental right...........................................................................
................................... Watson not only says he took a banned drug but did so often. You cannont get anything more damning than that - a confession happily told. Yet Watson is supported by Hird, his club and the AFL. He plays on..........................................
............................ And then there is Milne. He cannot play football even though he has not been found guilty of a crime and has not confessed to commiting any crime. Thud turns to thump. Take a tablet, look for a cold compress..........................
...............................St Kilda (and the AFL) got it right to not allow Milne to play once the police laid the rape charges dating back to an incident in 2004. Care needed to be taken of Milne and consideration given to whether he was mentally capable of taking the field. The charges were so serious consideration had to be given to the alleged victim, who was 19 at the time. It would have been most disrespectful of the woman and women for Milne to play on.
Milne will return to play because it would be unreasonable to withhold the footballer from playing football while the court case runs its exhausting course. But this Milne hiatus protects everyone involved.
No, there has been just one bad call so far. Hird should have stood down because his oversight of the supplements program had to be more thorough than anyone else. His breach of governance is obvious as it is unforgivable.
As a footballer Hird had everything. As a coach he has almost everything.
But what he has lost has not been misplaced, it's been dumped. Hird, once so admired, has lost a chunk of integrity."

Yes, the waters have been muddied by Watson's admission but I think the AFL & Essendon will try to hold firm in the face of being labelled the LAUGHING STOCK OF THE SPORTING WORLD !!
I reckon about 100 million Chinese don't care
actually i think they will care a fair bit ... considering the aussies are always one of the first to point the finger on an international level at drug cheats for this kind of thing to go down and be tried to be swept under the carpet its not just essendon that become a laughing stock but australian sport in general ... we cant be a country who protest against other nations for being drug cheats while at the same time allowing it in our own back yard ... the rest of the world couldnt care less about essendon but how we deal with drug cheats will be an interesting thing to most countrys

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!
From what I can see Stephen Milne has been stood down because of pressure from the AFL. Mostly becuase it's women's round this week. We can debate the merits of that decision but it probably considered the extra media attention focussed on our team and Milne specifically. It would also take into account 50,000 Richmond ferals screaming "rapist" everytime he went near the ball.
His absence has nothing to do with his on field actions. He is not gaining an unfair advantage every time he plays. In fact, it would be weighing him down.
Jobe Watson, on the other hand, has admitted to taking a banned substance. Whether or not he knew it was banned is beside the point. In any other sport he would not be allowed to play until an investigation is complete. I am at a loss to explain why he is lining up tonight and continues to retain his ill-gotten Brownlow Medal.

Bike riders were allowed to compete in the tour last year even though they admitted use of performance enhancing drugs in the Lance Armstrong affair. And they only got 6 months even though they actully knew they were using and it was deliberate.
Ok. Start reading from the OP and see if anything jumps out at you...here's a clue, look for the sentence that includes "interesting comparison".
You are so short sighted. We are not comparing rape and sport, we are comparing how the AFL are handling both situations!
Read Patrick Smith's article - suppose he is also a 'froth spitter from the outer'? Pffftttt....
Wow you are referencing a piece from a sports journalist as some sort of supporting argument to your position. Would this be a piece written by a guy trained and employed to stir certain thoughts and emotions in people like yourself. I'm tipping that it's the first time you've read something other than the the last few pages at the back of the HS.
