Watson vs Milne - explain the difference?
AFL seemed keen on Milne being stood down immediately for a period of time, yet aren't at all interested in Watson being stood down, even for a few weeks at the very least.
I know rape and drug cheating are different beasts, but it's an interesting comparison non the less.

Re: Watson vs Milne - explain the difference?
look from my point of veiw you cant really compair the cases ...
Jobes situation is part of an ongoing investigation where at this stage all that is being done is questions being asked as to if they have cheated or not ...
with the Milne situation he has officially been charged with a crime his guilt or innocence is yet to be determined but and i have to agree with the AFL and the Club at this point in time for all parties concerned it is prob better he sits out for a while

Milne professes his innocence, whilst Watson confessed his guilt ??

Just to play devil's advocate, one is a criminal matter and the other is not.
But yes, there is a double standard of sorts operating here.

Re: Watson vs Milne - explain the difference?
i think the Milne situation is about being mindful of impending trials and also from a player welfare/being mindful of the alleged victim ... last thing anyone needs the AFL- Milne - the Club - Milnes Legal team - the alledged victim is for more to be writen and discussed about this through the media

Re: Watson vs Milne - explain the difference?
The Watson case is part of a WIDER investigation that ASADA, WADA the AFL & Essendon signed up to. Part of that deal is that NOTHING will happen until the investigation is completed. Yes, the waters have been muddied by Watson's admission but I think the AFL & Essendon will try to hold firm in the face of being labelled the LAUGHING STOCK OF THE SPORTING WORLD !!

I wouldn't be so sure of that.bigcarl wrote:Just to play devil's advocate, one is a criminal matter and the other is not.
Re: Watson vs Milne - explain the difference?
The Milne & Watson cases have no relation, however Ben Cousins was stood down by the AFL for drug use - without any positive drug tests to accompany it.

Milne's been charged by the police. Watson is going to be dealt with by ASADA, WADA and the AFL.Beno88 wrote:I wouldn't be so sure of that.bigcarl wrote:Just to play devil's advocate, one is a criminal matter and the other is not.

Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

As a side note, has there been any athlete anywhere in the world admitted to taking a banned substance and then been allowed to continue to compete? Its kind of strange...

One has been booed for 9 years for a crime he has yet to be convicted of.
the other gets cheered every week for admitting to taking a banned substance that has helped him to get better.

Both claim they have done nothing wrong. That's the only similarity.

The Watson name has been untouchable for 30 years.
Since those days in the 80s when the Windy Hill grandstand would scream out "Timmy Timmy".
But things might be about to change

Re: Watson vs Milne - explain the difference?
Rape is a hideous crime against humanity and has serious ramifications for the alleged perpetrators .Milney has been forced out because he doesnt neccassarily know what's good for him at this time were as others do.
A banned substance well it's only a drug taken to play a game .in reality Jobe is probably playing for nothing this year anyway once sanctions are imposed, (of course this may effect outcomes of other games if he continues to play)

Re: Watson vs Milne - explain the difference?
I think this is a very interesting juxdaposition..
Let's say Justin Koschitzke comes out tomorrow and admits to using steroids?
Immediate suspension by AFL? Or wait until afl investigates blah blah blah...?
Rape obviously isn't comparable to a performance enhancing drug, but just seems like the AFL are inadvertently saying 'it's ok mr Watson, you have admitted guilt to a serious offense under the AFL, WADA Etc.. You just keep on playing each Saturday'
Whereas something not directy related to the game (milnes rape charge) demands he be stood down and he hasn't even been convicted..
It has been mentioned, but another comparison in liam jurrah - when originally charged the afl were happy for him to continue playing..
Just seems like 'a bit' of double standards from the AFL, which is nothing unusual really..
