Tom Simpkin? !!
What position will Tom Simkin play this week? Last week in the VFL he was a real SWINGMAN. He started at CHF, but spent equal time at either end. The one thing I really liked was when he came in off the front of the square at a centre bounce and absolutely CRUNCHED some Box Hill guy. Him & Kosi seemed intent on hurting blokes. I hope they BOTH do the same this week, without crossing the line, of course !!

Re: Tom Simkin? !!
Could they be testing him out in that swing role for the seniors, or just something the seconds needed him to do on the day?

Re: Tom Simkin? !!
We seem to be trying quite a few blokes in different positions - Stanley, Sipposs, Simpkin to name a few - just part of our rebuilding phase
Kind of like that we are testing different waters and trying our young players in different positions that could well benefit the team down the line

Head's lack of opportunities this year have been puzzling. He was one of the reasons last year that we remained more competitive than a lot of people expected us to be.
He should be given an extended run & not just one game in isolation.

Prob best all our players steer well clear of swinging this week.AccidentallyTim wrote:Could they be testing him out in that swing role for the seniors, or just something the seconds needed him to do on the day?

Re: Tom Simkin? !!
Gee I hope he kicks off where he left off last year...or at least does enough to show he is still part of the future. He's got that strong body shape that will be more than handy.

His body let him down more than opportunity. He's hardly been right to go this year.
Re: Tom Simpkin? !!
He's the right age profile for the areas we lack 22 - 26 y.o so I can't see us getting rid of him. Missed a bit of pre-season and form hasn't been great. Will be a good 3rd defender when / if we resolve our backline deficiencies in the next couple of years.

To a certain extent but not entirely true.gringo wrote:savatage wrote:Head's lack of opportunities this year have been puzzling. He was one of the reasons last year that we remained more competitive than a lot of people expected us to be.

He was also the first to be dropped last season, this year he was given one game and then dropped to the VFL - sure he wasn't in the same touch as the season before - but hard to let him shine in his one and only opportunity.

His other issue is Roberton took the spot he had away and now he's behind him in the pecking order. That's why I keep encouraging the move forward for him. I can't see next year being easier if we get a FB in. He missed most of preseason and looked rusty in most of his sandy games apparently. Hardly going to get promoted on that basis. i think he might have missed some Sandy games too didn't he?
Re: Tom Simpkin? !!
He's been good in all the Sandy games I've seen. He missed a few - but others have missed more & played more games in the seniors.
