Re: For the good of the club
You can't sack a player because he's been charged, unless your Lovett. I was surprised the club didn't get into more trouble in regards to that... but I think they sacked him because of breaking team rules/disciplinary issues, not because of the rape charge.
As to saying "can you imagine playing him with all the howls and abuse he's going to cop"... have you been to a Collingwood game lately? The poor bloke cops it week in, week out, and has done so for years.
At least if Milne needs time off to get this sorted, it's not going to destroy our finals hopes

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!
Re: For the good of the club
If Milney is maintaining his innocence then there's no question he should play on, providing he feels up to it (IMO). 5 goals in the last outing suggests he is the first small forward picked.

Re: For the good of the club
Oh, and in regards to us losing this week. Why couldn't they have sacked Neeld the following week? Generally the stats suggest a coach gets sacked and then the team wins. Just great!

Re: For the good of the club
How about we all take a deep breath and wait until the club makes an announcement tomorrow. I'm sure they have ALL the right people making ALL the right decisions on this matter. Also, it appears that the AFL are working closely with OUR Board of Directors on this so I say again, TAKE A DEEP BREATH & HOLD YOUR HORSES FOR 24 hours !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Re: For the good of the club
Thank god we aren't playing Collingwood this week. The abuse would be even more horrendous than normal. Personally, I think it would be wise for Milne to step aside until the committal hearing. It will keep him and his family out of the spotlight, allow the other players to focus on their football without worrying about how he is faring during games, and it will keep the most unsavoury elements of the media away from the football club. This will be an enormous stress on everyone at the club and the level of abuse from over the fence will be unprecedented. We saw what happened with the schoolgirl affair, and I can't bear it for the club to go through that kind of blitzkrieg again.
As hard as it is, this is a time where Milne needs to also think about the wider ramifications of this for the football club he loves, as well as looking after the interests of himself and his family. He's mentally tough, as we know, but I'm not sure it will be good for him, his team mates, and his club, if he chooses to play.
Innocent until proven guilty. However, I think 70s Sainter has got it absolutely right

I honestly think he should play this week if he feels up to it and if he doesnt then he should rest until he does feel up to it. If he wants to retire then he does that. having seen what Milney has gone through I reckon he will stick at it.

That would've happened long ago if it was going to. We all found out Kim Duthie's name pretty quickly....interesting that no one knows this girl's name. She's not after publicity.Moorabbin Man wrote:On the contrary watch the complainant sell her story to New Idea or one of those tawdry tabloids.SENsaintsational wrote:No winners out of this. None.
Poster formerly known as SENsaintsational. More wisdom. More knowledge. Less name.
Re: For the good of the club
Correct me if I'm wrong, he wasn't charged on 2004. Now he's being charged so different circumstances. Just the fact that he's in this situation is bringing the club and game into disrepute.Moorabbin Man wrote:How can they? This occurred in 2004 and at the time the Club did not (rightfully) stand him down. They cannot change their mind 9 years after the fact and have two bites of the cherry. All that has changed, is that some paluka at Vic Pol has changed their mind. Nothing else has changed. So the Club should get some competent (not the idiot whom advised them in the GT annual leave matter) industrial legal advice re: standing Milne down. That advice should be that they can't and would face a law suit from Milne if they did.Old Mate wrote:I have to agree. If we are consistent (Gram and Lovett) then Milne will be sacked immediately.

Re: For the good of the club
Astounding its taken 9 years to finally come to this.
Milney s lived the abuse since it happened anyway.
Police bungled it the first time round, wonder why it's appropriate now?
Certainly the repercussions for the club will be wide spread.
Don't need the media circus at this point.

Did the police bungle it first time, or did a middle ranking Saints supporting copper interfere with the initial investigation?Greg T wrote:Astounding its taken 9 years to finally come to this.

Seems there was a case to answer and that didn't happen in 2004. It is happening now. I hope Milney remembers his story, I'm sure she will.bergsone wrote:Or is this getting back at that cop.Lets face it they are always back stabbing each otherBernard Shakey wrote:Did the police bungle it first time, or did a middle ranking Saints supporting copper interfere with the initial investigation?Greg T wrote:Astounding its taken 9 years to finally come to this.

If you want your fans to stand by the club through thick and thin (and we are in for a very thin time over the next fews years) the club must stand by its players through thick and thin.

Re: For the good of the club
Milne is a St Kilda player...... One of the best of all time. Therefore he must play, and deserves to be selected after five goals in his last game.
In honour of those who went before, in the dark and desperate years.
