Re: Milne
Wow. Talk about jumping to conclusions.
Both Milne and the club would be well aware of exactly what happened. If there was any chance that he was to be found guilty, the club would have cut him loose when they had the chance many years ago.
Suggestions that he should give in to this rubbish after fighting it for so long are ridiculous.
If he is found guilty, then yes, he deserves the punishment that comes with, but I find that highly unlikely after all this time.

OK, stand corrected again. Not having a good afternoon. Should proof read before I post.Life Long Saint wrote:Gram's case did NOT involve violent behaviour.saint75 wrote:They are not different. In fact, all parties were quite adamant about that point.
Don't treat the Gram case the same as the Lovett or Milne case.
Gram was sacked due to his STALKING of a women. Still was an issue with a women that was unacceptable and was not tolerated.
I hope they don't stand Milne down, however, we could be viewed as hypocritical if we don't. Think he should definitely sit this weekend out.

If they couldn't convict Lovett how could they convict Milne

It will come down to his word against hers.
And given the events that evening leading up to it, she will find it hard to argue.
Bit like a traffic accident without a camera where one party says it was a green light and the other says it was a red light.

Pleae read the statement from the police. There was found to be NO tampering with the evidence. The issue was that it was not investigated thoroughly enough.

This is my sentiments exactly, if he did it and there is no question he is guilty he deserves all the bad coming his way, however if not convicted and he is dragged through this again I'll be devastated for him.saint75 wrote:If he is found guilty, throw the book at him. In any case, as unfortunate as it is, I feel this might be it for milney the footballer, it's a shame but we can't throw him out to the wolves while it plays out

I believe him to be as well based on what I know. Doesn't change anything though. In the eyes of the law, Lovett is innocent as well.magnifisaint wrote:he's still innocentsaint75 wrote:OK, stand corrected again. Not having a good afternoon. Joey was cleared of any wrongdoing pretty early on… the complaint was against Milney not Joey.Hurricane wrote:What new evidence could they possibly have now that they didn't then? Why are they charging Milne and not Joey? Or is Joey going to be charged too? I thought there was a civil case too.
All this seems strange they would be charging him after nearly 10 years and for the record I think its bogus just like I did then.
At the end of the day this tarnishes the reputation of a great football player and the entire club. I really hope its not just political

Re: Milne
The best outcome for all is that Milney volunteers to stand down until the issue reaches a conclusion.
I hope someone talks sense to him over this.
One would not want to stand down such a good servant of the club against his will, and we have set some sort of precedent over this.
It would be explained that he could not concentrate on his football with this hanging over his head.
Lousy way to end his career, and I would like to see him offered a further one year contract sould the charges not be sustained.
Someone in the DPP and Victorian Police has a lot of explaining to do over this. Without being flippant, a nine year delay is definately someone's c**k-up.

When I googled this I found a report in the Herald Sun from may 2012 that stated that it was extremely unlikely that the case against Milne would proceed. I cant post the link it wont work. So what has happened in the past 12 months. Why now?

The official pretense seems to be that the initial investigation was reviewed and found to be "substantially inadequate"
Re: Milne
Yep, that would seem to be the best course of action for all parties.markp wrote:It's not conceivable to me that he can or will still play... he'll be suspended/excused from playing duties till season's end then quietly retire, I'd have thought.

Interesting that the OPI says that not enough was done to gather all the evidence but would not opine over the weight of this evidence. So the question is what new evidence has been found to lead to these charges. If there is no new evidence then the only other outcome was that the different senior officer in the police ranks and/or prosecutions office has decided there is enough to charge him with. Can Milne sue them if the charges are either dropped or not sustained? Could they be charging him to "make up" for the original stuff up.
Perhaps I need to just let this go. Just makes me sad and feel sick

Can't believe the talk of "standing down", "suspended" et al.
