I think where there is 'smoke there is fire' - but the chance of a successful prosecution after all this time would be negligible!saint75 wrote:If he is found guilty, throw the book at him. If not, let this be a chance to clear his name once and for all.
SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!
Re: Milne
Was wondering the same thing - have we set the precedent with Lovett??lummox wrote:Does the club have to stand him down because of this?
I don't know much about these things but I would think he's in a spot of bother if they have decided to go ahead with charges after all this time??? Watch him cop it from opposition supporters now after speaking out in the media the last few weeks.
If he's guilty he deserves everything he gets - but if not I feel extraordinarily sorry for him..

But I would be very surprised if he is actually convicted.
the police have charged him......don't know what the prosecution thinks at this stage.....

Re: Milne
I think the club should stand him down until the matter is resolved one way or the other.
It's not about passing judgement. It's about respecting that one of our players has been charged with a heinous act.
It's the only decent thing to do.

Re: Milne
I think it is best for everyone that he retires now and concentrates on his case.
The way he has put up with tirades from opposition supporters since 2004 has been amazing but it will be 10 times worse now.

"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."
Re: Milne
After hearing the story of the 'events' that night (second hand from people that knew people from both sides), I never believed him to be guilty of what he was accused and I still don't. However, if I am wrong, I would want him in jail. There is NO excuse for violence against women regardless of whom you are and what your public standing is.

Re: Milne
I think he will probably give the game away now !
He's out of contract and has said the abuse he cops affects his family , so i'd only expect even more abuse coming his way now .

Re: Milne
It will take a long time for this to go through "the process." That he has been charged after all of this time, is not a good situation for him, his family, or the Club to be in. Given his history and his AFL profile, the charges would not have been laid unless they thought that there is a strong case for him to answer. Let the process ..... and the press hype, begin.
Re: Milne
We have set a precedent with not only the way we handled the Lovett case, but also the stalking case involving Gram and his ex partner.
I think he has to be stood down unfortunately, as much as it pains me to say it.

Re: Milne
Sounds like this is more about the politics in the police force of revenge for someone trying to "help" him by destroying evidence.
If he is pleading innocent he should definitely play on.
Nor should the club stand him down if he is pleading innocent.
