Re: Saints v Eagles Game Thread
can someone explain a free kick count of 22 to 14. Very similar close game played friday night 9-8. All the talk has been how the umpires have put the whistle away this round until our game. once again our opposition get 20 free kicks. cmon someone, give me a reason

The Eagles get more frees than every other side because they cheat. They dive fwd and duck ever time they are tackled. Has been going on for 2 years. Total joke.mullet wrote:can someone explain a free kick count of 22 to 14. Very similar close game played friday night 9-8. So because our defenders are too small we infringe all the time, and because we are slow how do we give away frees from being too slowwhiskers3614 wrote:Our backs are too small and our mids are too slow!mullet wrote:can someone explain a free kick count of 22 to 14. Re: Saints v Eagles Game Thread
Probably the best result at this stage of the season, all but Saad were reasonable in an entertaining game, some joy for the supporters and still a good chance for draft pick 3 or maybe even better. It's time to turnover our recruiting staff as they will trade an early pick for Mitch Brown and we all saw that he is another waste of space like a lot of our existing early picks.

you have to wait until at least 2 hours after the game before you cushion a loss with draft pick talk.BadRossco wrote:Probably the best result at this stage of the season, all but Saad were reasonable in an entertaining game, some joy for the supporters and still a good chance for draft pick 3 or maybe even better. Re: Saints v Eagles Game Thread
Monty - very selfish
Why would you take Webster off???
14-22 frees including some absolute howlers in the last qtr.
Please don;t tell me umpires don;t decide matches. c***s.

True but wouldn't it be wonderful to win and use that to reinforce the message that effort wins games? Instead this result shows we can come close but still dnt win. I know which is the stronger ad more useful message.mullet wrote:spose it is good for the kids to experience a close one
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Re: Saints v Eagles Game Thread
Today just reinforces what I have observed since mid last year. Many teams are winning games with lower tackle counts. Geelong in particular this year.CURLY wrote:21 more tackles lead all game 6 less frees.
The aim of tackling a player is to regain possession but the umpires no longer recognise this anymore. The only option now is for players to try to prise out the ball (rugby like) during tackles. Mostly this ends up in ball ups so they have created a situation that the game stops anyway. Very few tackles now result in free kicks so other tactics like stronger scragging of players near but outside of the contest. The Eagles did this well today particularly in the second half. They don't get pinged for this either. Its nearly surpassed they ducking ability now.
Leave the rules alone I say so teams can plan team balance and skills needed without interference from rule changes.
Every AFL rule change in the last 5 years seems to be developed to speed up the game and reduce stoppages. Well "Herr Dictator", nothing you do with the rules lasts long before coaches employ other tactics to minimise your expected value from changes. Look and learn.
So in summary; Tackle less, scrag more *but no Cox ad Pridis because they are a protected species), use 2 action pushes as forward to create space because generally you can get away with this. We might win more clearances with these tactics employed.

Simple answer is no.mullet wrote:20 frees to wc 13 to us. In a round where all other games the whistle has been put away. Trying not to be paranoid , but every week we are the team with the most against us. Are we undisciplined
Correct answer is thatwe were playing the Eagles who generally average more frees that other teams. 9 years of records prove this.
