Our cheersquad: why is it so tiny ?
It's plain embarrassing how small it is.
I reckon it is close to the smallest in the AFL.
Against the Roos it looked smaller than some games we play interstate.

I sat next to them and if they mostly didn't take up two seats on an aircraft it would have been even worse. I was actually cringing at the chants too. The fisting cardinal was pretty silent too. If you dress like a dick go hard IMO. Imagine what the interstate games are like.

SP, i was on the plane watcing the game coming back from bris..... (free foxfooty on my virgin flight) i was shocked at seeing two streamer wavers in the goal square. was third Qrt though, i was wondering if they had left early?saintspremiers wrote:It's plain embarrassing how small it is.

Nup didn't turn up. i upgraded to sit behind the goal because my seven year old loves seeing the players up close -we sat directly in the cheer squad and there were seats everywhere around us- at least there was no one in our way to get food. row e next to us was empty and there would have been about 7 people with in 10 meters of us we could have sat on the fence if we wanted.
I know we aren't travelling well but it was eerie how few came.

I don't mind our small cheer squad as i think cheersquads should be the realm of juveniles !
at least 30 yr olds and under .
I see many in other cheersquad who are approaching retirement !
however I do understand the love the these people have for their club !

I think cheersquads are a relic of the past who's days are dwindling.

Re: Our cheersquad: why is it so tiny ?
It's not just the cheer Squad who are feeling a bit flat lately. I suspect there are many other SAINTS Fans/Members feeling the same. I have a proposal in another thread that will hopefully lift the spirits (and the size of the crowd). Now if only I was technical enough to link it on this thread.
Having said all that, I'm sure that a win or 3 would see the numbers grow and the spirits rise !!

Well it's one of those cool trends that no one else follows. So cool no one else feels worthy to copy!
I have created many of these in my lifetime....!

At my age and physical condition, the entire cheersquad would have to carry me to and from the game, and use a cattle prod to get me to my feet when we score.Eastern wrote:Hey Grumps they might just need a legend like your good self to lead them forward !!GrumpyOne wrote:I think cheersquads are a relic of the past who's days are dwindling.

Re: Our cheersquad: why is it so tiny ?
I've got a friend who is in the North Melb CS.
He got roped in because his son is a member.
He didn't even originally barrack for North.
For the last 10 years they were so short on numbers that he often would be asked to hold the run through post etc.
I used to be able to spot him behind the goals because their numbers were so thin.
But last Sunday the NMCS had packed out the whole bay!!
Full of Johnny come lately's.
Where were they when North was down?
Been on a holiday since 1999?

Re: Our cheersquad: why is it so tiny ?
i was at the game on Sunday and got seats to the side of our cheer squad ... it was pretty sad honestly the stadium was pretty empty in general but our cheer squad was really light on numbers ....
as for interstate games .. i could 100% guarentee a full cheer squad area of Saints fans for our game against the dockers i could have 100 loud rowdy eager members ready to yell til they can no longer and wave flags and floggers like there was no tomorrow ... i could have 25 strong able bodied members ready to turn up at 8am on game day in full st kilda kit willing to help hold the players banner ... sadly the cheer squad dont want our help in WA and would rather get Freo fans or randoms to help them on game day ....
its a shame really
