The Diff between us & Melb.
Well not a great deal really except for the fact that we have a far more talented outfit.....so I guess it makes it easier to sort out what our main concerns are.

They have been down for a while and not showing signs of turning around, and we are going to finish the lowest we have in 10 years?

We won in '66. They won in '64.

They have a kid that is going to be the next superstar of the AFL
And I'm not talking about viney, who will be a star anyway.
As a matter of fact they have better kids than us at this stage

Had a bet with a mate who is Melbourne. Whoever is the first to 10 wins in a season loses a bottle of bourbon.
Luckily neither will have to think about paying until 2017 or beyond

Agree, in 5 years time they are going to have a lot more guns than we will.tweedaletomanning wrote:They have a kid that is going to be the next superstar of the AFL

Hogan is everything that Watts isn't… and probably Lee for that matter.

Better administration.
Better long term plan (Pelchan, drafting, SC management, Yoof academy)

Lance or James??

Our coach is clearly better looking. Surprised Melbourne did not pick up a more handsome coach.

Agree with all of that. Surely the astute supporters can make a similar observation.joffaboy wrote:Better administration.

We could stay bottom 4 for the next couple of years and still not be compared to Melbourne.
We are rebuilding and we have got off to a great start with that process.
There is a perception or a belief by some that we haven't bottomed out yet which I largely think is related to pending retirements of certain older players over the next year or two but it is also possible that by the time those retirements come around that the individual and collective experience of the newer players will be enough to cover the retirements. It would be nice to be a year or two more advanced on that front "but it is what it is" (been hanging to use that phrase).
We've been able to put a big tick next to some of the new recruits from the past two years and if we weren't able to do that then we'd have something to be really worried about but you can see that the club has clearly got a management structure and recruiting process in place that already looks like completely different to the way the old St Kilda used to do business and is delivering some results.

Re: The Diff between us & Melb.
I haven't posted on here in a while.
Are you f***ing serious? Yesterday was a very graphic display of the difference between the two sides.
Melbourne would have got belted by 25 goals yesterday. We lost the last three quarters by 13 points still being dominated in the middle, in possession, with no help from the umpires at any stage, and with a one sided crowd.
And we'll win next week.
Don't anyone compare us to Melbourne, anywhere, ever again.
End communication.

Re: The Diff between us & Melb.
for what its worth, watched the Zebras v Casey game on Saturday . Someone pointed this kid out to me. Not sure about his general play.... but his kicking for goal is terrible (complete with the Kennedy stutter). Hard to believe these kids get through the system without fundamenetal skills.dragit wrote:tweedaletomanning wrote:Hogan is everything that Watts isn't… and probably Lee for that matter.
What's the Point of it All?
Re: The Diff between us & Melb.
agree, now i have calmed down... i realise that our first quarter was Melbourne-esque... but melbourne would have been burried after that....
we showed a good deal of resiliance and determination to not throw in the towel....
The sky is no longer falling, and i can come out from my bomb shelter

Re: The Diff between us & Melb.
Melb keeps losing by at least 10 goals. That was our tirst one and will be the last.
